I have a BFR in 45-70 that I was going to put a 2x7 Burris on and now you have me rethinking it. I have the scope (I was going to put it on a 6.5mm Encore that I never found) and I wanted to scope this gun so I was just going to use it. If I was buying new I would get a 2 or 2.5 and call it a day. I like the Burris scopes for handguns as they have a much better and forgiving field of view compared to a Leupold. All my rifles wear Leupold though I have owned a Burris of two for them as well. I have never used a Burris scope on something that recoils like the 45-70, am I just asking for problems?
Another post had some problems with this scope and now I am considering something else for this gun.Would or does the posi-lock help?
What do you guys put on this type of gun? Up until now it was an open site only gun but I am looking at a 475 and if I get it, that will be my open site side arm.

Barefoot-While Burris makes some good scopes I have only herd there costomer service sucks.I have a Burris speed dot on my .454 and it handles all the recoil I have thrown at it includeing some Cor-Bon loads. But if I were to buy a standard scope,I think Leupold would get the nod with Burris second.

Just my opinion and good luck on your choice.Jayco.

I have spoke with their customer service department on a couple of occasions and they were OK and did answer my questions. I have never called with a problem (I have never had to)
Having said that When I have called Leupold they not only knew the answer to most every question I asked and if they did not they found out and actually returned my call to let me know.
They also know alot about their competitors and what makes them tick.
I once asked the same question to both companies "Why should I buy your scope and not the other one. Burris was a 1 min. conversation and with Leupold it was more like 10 minutes. They told and sold me on a lot of good points and even had a few nice things to say about their competitor.
Glass for glass I don't know if I can see any difference between them. I trust Leupold 100% I know if I use Burris and it breaks they will fix it but will they pay for the hunt or animal it cost me, probably not.
I guess I have really answered my own question I just really like the field of view a much better on the Burris.
