My friend Dave just could not get a deer this season even when I put him in my best spots. I heard him shoot yesterday afternoon and after checking on him I sat at my shooting bench to wait for him. (found later he shot at a fox and later he turned to see what was making noise behind him and spooked 6 deer) I seen a bunch of deer come through my fence and head toward me. I had a big doe walking by real fast at 30 yds. and I shot her in the shoulder with my .44 Blackhawk. I used the 330 gr. boolit from my home made mold, cast hard. She went straight up, hit the ground running and smashed into trees and brush. She crashed dead in less then 30 yds. Lots of noise. Her lungs and heart were destroyed. I gave her to Dave and had to teach him how and help butcher today. Thats four with revolvers this season and two with the bow. Yesterday was the last day and I shot her in the last few minutes.

With the recent news on Mad Cow Disease, we are really glad to have 2 1/2 Elk in the Freezer.
Your really killing me with these stories. I'm about to packup the Son and truck and do a road trip. It's a good thing that your season is over or I might be really tempted. How is the out of state Hunting fees?
I'd really like to shoot something with the 70cal Howdah.
I've been turning a bunch of brass in the garage this past week. I'm going to make a portable loading press to go with it also.
Happy Holidays.

Lar, it's expensive. WV NR hunting license-$100, conservation stamp-$10, doe-$25, additional deer stamps-$30 ea., archery-$25, muzzle loader-$25.
When I had to buy a resident license it cost me $25 for a sportsman license which included all hunting, trapping and fishing. All I needed were a pistol stamp-$5, additional deer stamps-$10, and doe stamps-$8. Now that I am over 65 I don't need a license, only the extra stamps.
Man, that Howdah would put a hurt on a deer!
Just to show the difference in prices, if a non resident wants to hunt bear it costs $150 for the stamp. For me it costs $4.

Those are not expensive tags.

Up here a non-res license is $80 and each deer tag is $150.

Thanks for sharing your deer hunting stories.

RMiller, Kind of a shock! I guess thats why us plain poor folks can't hunt up there. I would love nothing better then to hunt Alaska for the beautiful country and the nice people up there. But the government keeps us from doing it.
I would never hunt deer there because they are too easy to get here, or anywhere for that matter. But a moose or something would be different.
I probably know more about whitetails then anyone and almost think like they do. I can tell you what every movement and action they do means and how to fool them. They are SOOO easy.
