I bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk this weekend and when I was picking it up the guy made a point of mentioning that it was a "Transition Model" but he couldn't explain what that meant. I looked on the Ruger website and found the gun was manufacturers around 1977 but I didn't see anything relating to a transition model. Can anyone explain to me what a "Transition Model" means.

I don't think I've ever heared that term ether. The old 3 screw blackhawks were replaced with the new model about that time. I bought my first Superblackhawk in around 1975 or 76 and it was a new model. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

You also made me curious and I also thought it must have something to do with the old to new model conversion. A Google search lead nowhere, but gunblast.com did make mention of them and it seems there is some connection to the old to new model change. Gunblast also says that about 1000 of these were made, and were collected. Yours may be somewhat valuable. Here's the link http://www.gunblast.com/Hamm_357-Flattop.htm And the paragraph that mentions them: While I will not cover them in detail in this article, there are several other very scarce or very to extremely rare interesting variations of the .357 “Flattop” that were made . . while a thousand or more of some of these variations were made, such as the "transition guns", some are limited to only one or two made like the engraved guns. These variations include, but are not limited to, "transition guns", case hardened guns, inscribed guns, engraved guns, “A” prefixed serial numbered 10” guns (duplicate numbered?), plated guns, and “S” marked guns.

Your question can probably best be answered by asking it on The Ruger Forum, under the Ruger revolvers section.

Thanks for the input, I'm hoping Daniel77 is right. I sent the question directly to Ruger, I'll let you know what they say. If that doesn't pan out I'll definately try the Rugerforum site.
