I had a CharterArms 44 special years ago..The recoil was some kind of explosion and took a bit of my skin each shot, I traded it off pronto for a Mod. 10 converted to a 5 shot 357, then S&W copied that somewhat and I ended up with that one for awhile...I then traded it off for a 6" mod 19 and loved that one, but it was a poor killer on deer IMO, settled on the 41 S&W 6" for hunting and never looked back, the 44 was just as good btw..but I never was much of a pistol nut..liked my rifles.. Ray, 40+ years ago I did a lot of backpacking in the Big Bend area where carried weight is very important. Water is pretty important when you're out for a week + you are carrying everything on your back. Although one was not supposed to carry a weapon; forget that! I carried a Charter Arms 44 bulldog because at that time it was the lightest pistol (28 oz.)with the most KO power. Never mistake motion for action.

Don't know about gas cutting never seen any on my 357 2.5 inch Charter arms. But in IMHOP they are a lower grade firearm then Taurus handguns. I own two of them and have shot others. Better then nothing if they shoot.
