I have all the defensive hand guns 45's 9mms,380 357s,41's,44mag. Small on up.

Iam thinking something bigger.

Single actions leave me cold had several of them sold them. So do contenders have a couple but not really my thing.

What should be next not really interisted in a wildcat would like fairly easy to get brass. Most likely well buy a mold and cast my own bullets.

A 1911 in 50 GI. How about a Wildey in 475mag? Maybe a 500 S&W w/ the 4" barrel? Why not a Grizzly in 45 Win mag? All good choices.

Maybe it is time for a custom; maybe from JRH or similar... I know that Linebaugh and others work primarily on single actions. Contact Hamilton Bowen by phone and see what he can build for you on a Redhawk or Smith N Frame.

I have three custom double actions built buy Jack Huntington. An SRH in .475 Linebaugh, an SRH in .500 Linebaugh, and a Redhawk in .454 Casull. I like DA big-bores!

Its not big, but a .32 Single Six or a Model 16 Smith may be just the ticket for your shooting and casting pleasure.

Wyoske, the Model 16 is a very astute recommendation... I have one in each of the three barrel lengths, and they are a pleasure to shoot.

Albeit pricey due to the limited run of less than 8000 total back in the late 80s and early 90s, brass for the Model 16 is available, and Lyman moulds 311316, 311008 or similar make the little magnum a lot of fun! (And RCBS offers the 32-098 in a full wadcutter profile as well!)

Really like mine, wonder if we could get Smith to make some 616s? Would love to have a stainless 4 inch.

I would love a stainless 4". Unfotunately, it would have the "Bill Clinton hole" in the side of the frame, and I cannot abide that. Period. I own a lot of Smiths, and only one of them has that feature. One day I will disable it and have my riflesmith machine a pin to fit the hole!

Have you considered the 4" GP-100 in 327 Federal? It isn't a Smith, but it is a fine revolver... The only drawback I can find is if memory serves, it is a seven shot.

Since you posted in the Handgun Hunting forum, i assume you are looking for a revolver to hunt with and you said you want something larger than what you already have in 44mag, 45 etc, and you don't want a single action... so...

Seems you're left with a 460 or 500 S&W or a Ruger (Super) Redhawk maybe in Casull or, my favorite, a Freedom Arms in Casull. Of course, the FA is single-action, but it's a fine revolver for hunting.

John Ross is running this group buy http://castboolits.gunloads.co...wthread.php?t=111257 , for more technical info read post #20. Getting this 500 for $1350 (dealer price is $1395) from S&W Performance Center looks like bargain. If you want it, you better hurry, John started taking payments.

It would be nice to be able to get a non-ported piece to replace the stock one.
A couple years ago I bought a 4" that was slightly used(5 rounds) for under $700

Is that the 6.5-inch .500? I will be playing with one of those in a couple of months.

This particular revolver has same design as DW;

Barrel attachment method The realities of S&W’s production facility dictate that if you want a tight (.0035”-.0045”) cylinder gap on every gun in a run of five hundred units, you are going to have to use a three-piece barrel assembly with a barrel, barrel shroud, and a muzzle nut. I originally wanted an internal muzzle nut like the one used on the 5” 327 Miculek model .357 Magnum (and all Dan Wessons), but there is not enough room to do this on a gun with a half-inch bore. The internal nut has to be so thin that the engagement lugs on the tool you use to tighten it break off before you can get enough torque. Dick Mochak experimented with a number of possible alternatives, and an external muzzle nut with eight flats on the front quarter-inch of its length was far and away the most robust design. Like Keith, I want what works best, and this is it. The look grows on you.

Never handled 5˝ , just 8-3/8˝ with muzzle brake. However, if you read the text I copied few posts back, you will see that noted 5˝ barrel is 3 piece assembly, with shroud like DW. As far as I know, standard barrels on all S&W revolvers are single piece, without counting muzzle brake. In that respect, looks to me that 5˝ barrel from Performance Center was never been designed to take muzzle brake.
