Im thinking about buying the leupold VX-3 Handgun 2.5-8x32mm scope for my SW .500 and maybe on my Desert Eagle as well. Anyone try it out. Also if I switch the scope to a different gun do I have to dial it in again?
I don't have any personal experience with that Leupold but a guy I know put that scope on a FA 454Casull and it wouldn't handle the recoil. He was advisedby Freedom Arms to get a Bushnell 3200 pistol scope but thought he knew better. He then put the Bushnell on it and it worked great.

I have one on a Contender Pistol in 35 Remington.I have had no issues with it,but think mine is an earlier model than the VX3.If you switch guns you will have to re sight it in.

I have them on 2 different .454 Casull's, a .460 S&W's, and a number of single shots in Encores and Contenders. Great scopes.
I also like the Bushnell Elite that was recommended above as well - it's my second favorite variable pistol scope behind the Leupold, and a great value!
For handguns with very heavy recoil, I don't think any of the scopes available are ideal. I have a Leupold VX=3 that I haven't broken yet (maybe I haven't used it enough yet) but between a 500 S&W Magnum and a 460 S&W Magnum, I've broken several of the earlier models. The good thing is Leupold fixed the for free.
I also broke a Bushnell Trophy handgun scope with a supposedly lifetime warranty. Bushnell wouldn't replace it saying it had been "abused." I've never used a Bushnell 3200 scope and never plan to as I've been soured on Bushnell since then.
I have one on a .376 Steyr Encore. Has held up well, but only a medium range scope. I have a 3-12X Burris Ballistic Plex on a .375/.284 and .325 WSM XPs that are far better long range scopes. The one on the .375 has been on it 11 years without any problems. I've taken game out to 400 yards with the .375/Burris combo.
Got my scope in and mounted it on my 10 inch .50AE desert eagle and its pretty good. I will try it on some hogs and see how it goes. What power do you guys use?
I tried my desert eagle with the scope set to 2.5 and I was hitting bricks out to 50 yards easy. Not sure when I would use the 8 power though. The 2.5 will be great for hogs.
