Playing with rifles at the 100 yard range took up more time than expected, not wanting to load up and go to the pistol side, I decided to fire off some remaining 44 loads at the 100 yard steel gong. With my trusty spotter by my side (the wife) I fired off 1 round holding slightly high. She called the shot high. I aimed dead center, squeezed the trigger, and watch the gong flip around while letting out a loud clank. What are the odds, so I tried pushing my luck, clank, then clank, then clank, then clank. 5 out of 6 hits, 100 yards, 6" steel gong, 6" S&W 629, iron-sights, 300gr hard cast, all off-hand... I think I'm going to buy a lotto ticket.... As an aside, the two gentlemen who emptied two 20 round magazines with a M1A only to hit the gong twice at first looked at me like I was crazy, then they looked at me like I was lucky, then they looked at their rifle and murmered something impolite... Years ago I had an FIE 44cal cap & ball revolver I bought as a kit for $20.00 and was shooting at the 25 yard range rolling pop cans hitting them on a regular basis while a guy next to me was trying to hit them with his scoped 30-30. He went home cussing his rifle. I know the 30-30 should have out shot my POS FIE 44 cap & ball but some days all the stars align and you can't miss. It's not the gun, it's the shooter. If he was blaming the gun you'd probably be safer in front of him than behind him, in theory anyway. ..And why the sea is boiling hot And whether pigs have wings. -Lewis Carroll

That was some fine shooting to be sure. It really puts a smile on my face when we outshoot rifles. I have done the same and will never forget the look on their faces. You will never forget what you have done and I hope you smile everytime you think of it. Great shooting!

Fun isn't it? Speaking of Elmer, my shooting partner & I took a trip and paid him a visit in Salmon Idaho in the earlie '70's. We spent a very interesting day with him, the memories of which I'll never forget.
