I was wondering if I could use the 50 caliber muzzleloading bullets to reload in my 500 S&w magnum? I want to try the Hornady SST and Winchester Platinum Tip muzzy bullets. Could I also use the 45 caliber muzzy bullets with 50 caliber sabot? I would like to know if anyone would like to share any loading data for these rounds with H110 or Lilgun.

I have not heard of anyone doing it, the main thing to it would be, is it .500. My other concern is cost of M/L bullets with sabots compared to regular cast bullets. I know where I can get great cast bullets the perform very good and a lot less expensive. If you do it let us know what you come up with.

The Winchester muzzy 400gr. bullet is the exact same bullet that they use in their .500 mag factory load. I would think that any full caliber muzzy bullet (Powerbelts etc.) would work ok in the .500 mag. Accuracy might be iffy with the sabot bullets due to the jump from cylinder to barrel that MZ rifles don't have. The sabot might come apart before fully entering the forcing cone.

Sabots are sensitive to heat using a revolver they probably would tend to over heat and the accuracy would suffer. Be sure to let us know your results if you try them in your 500.

I think I'd be afraid to use a sabot in something with a muzzle comp chamber. What if the Sabot opened up inside???

I wouldn't use a sabot in a revolver. I think that thing is going to be trying to shed the sabot itself the moment it goes off. Question is, does it happen in the cylinder, the forcing cone, the compensator, etc. I'd avoid that like the plague.

Guess I will stay away from the sabots and use the 50 caliber bullets.

For lighter / target type loads I use 350 - 370gr cast bullets, 10grs of Unique, Hornady cases & CCI 350 primers. For A more moderate load I use a 440gr cast GC, 14grs Unique, Hornady cases & CCI 350 primers. For some of the 'warmer' stuff I've been using 350gr HP, Hornady or Sierra, 42grs H110, Starline cases, & CCI 200 primers. My hot loads, 440gr cast GC, 37grs H110, Starline cases, CCI 200 primers. Last, 500gr Hornady JFP Mag, 32grs H110, Starline cases, CCI 200 primers. At my request, Hornady & Sierra have e-mailed me data for the 500 as it isn't in their newest manuals. A couple of additional sources of info have been from back issues of the American Handgunner & tests by John Taffin and from Beartooth Bullets. Hope this helps you out.

Please do. More than one gun (from pistols to 50 BMG rifles) has been destroyed by sabots shot through compensators and muzzle brakes.

The most fun round I have loaded for the 500 is a muzzy round ball pressed into the case mouth over 15 grains of Unique over a magnum primer. Its pure hell on cats at back porch range............JJ

Once upon a time I had a Ruger Old Army. The most fun was to put a 22 lr case full of FFFG under a ball and try to shoot targets. Even at 25 yds they wouldn't penetrate tin roof material or bounce back, either.
