Must seem weird for a Canadian to ask this, but a hunting buddy just bought a 629 44 Mag and I'd like to wring as much distance out of her as possible. Thanks in advance.

my brother used my son's 44 mag 629 power port for a large buffalo in january. originally i was gonna have him use my smith 44 with bb hardcast loads but he was hesitant to use a handgun b/c he is in a wheelchair afterall and think he was just a bit intimidated about being in a wheelchair and on the ground with the buff 20 yards away. well, at the last second he bailed on the 45/70 and really wanted to use a handgun and the only one available besides my casull (which he wanted no part of) was my son's 44 mag which was sighted in for the 225gr ftx factory loads for deer and other small game. i was unsure if this would do the trick but he said i could use my 45/70 to put it down if it didn't do the trick. he ended up pumped 5 into the buff in rapid succession. he put 3 into the vitals. first shot behind the shoulder and passed through without hitting a shoulder bone, second vital hit was a bit far back through the liver but caught the offside lung, and passed through, last shot in the vitals was behind the shoulder with the buff quartering away a touch and went through the offside shoulder breaking it into about 10 pieces and the bullet was in the offside hide. it had no petals on it but retained weight was about 190 grains if i remember correctly with an intact base and jacket. obviously hardcast would've been the better choice for the buff but i think these rounds will do the job and would be dynamite for deer and elk. definitely flatter shooting and priced right. i like them.
