I am new to the 10 mm game and I have a 10 mm carbine not a pistol .I am trying to figure out what to use for deer .I am trying Hornady xtp 180 gr I always had good luck with xtps .My loads will be 200 to 300 fps due to longer barrel. I MAY EVEN get a 18 inch barrel that's the max speed for the 10 mm .

What I have found with PCC's that a heavier tougher bullet works better.

The lighter bullets tend to come apart at carbine velocities.

Hollow points can become explosive.

Between the daughter and I we have shot a couple dozen deer with PCC's.

Caliber doesn't does not seem to matter it is bullet construction that does.

I have shot one black bear with 165 gr Sierra JHP,
one mountain lion with 165 gr Golden Saber handload,
and one cow elk with 200 gr Nosler JHP. All shot with a Colt Delta Gold Cup. Out of your carbine and max load, I'd recommend at least 180 gr JHP but am thinking the 200 gr XTP or 200 gr Nosler JHP will be better choices.

I don't have a 10mm, but I do have a Sig .40 S&W. I've been a bullet tester for many decades with each new gun I have. I've taken about 20 deer with my Sig .40.
The results: poor performance from Gold Dots, all XTPs, 170 cast SWCs-minimal tissue damage, fair penetration.
The outstanding performer was the Sierra 165 gr. JHC. I had 95% instant stops, good tissue damage, not total penetration, but bullet usually on off side.
I know 10mm performance may be a little better with the heavier bullets, but the 165 Sierra is definitely a winner for me.+

FWIW, I have shot a lot of hogs with the 40 Super, launching a 200gr XTP at 1350fps. Works great.

So what is a 40 Super? Must have a little more mustard than a 10mm if you're getting 1350 fps with a 200 XTP, even with a longslide.

My state does not allow the use of the 10mm for hunting.

I have seen many videos and read many posts on other forums with people using their 10mm handguns to kill deer, and pigs.
Lots of the guys were using 200gr cast bullets or 200gr XTPs.
