Is there a pistol cartridge that uses .510 diameter bullets. The reason I ask is that I have some Barnes XPB bullets that are .510" diameter 325 gr. "XPB". The only .50 caliber pistols that I can think of use .499/.500 diameter bullets.
Thanks.

The 500 Linebaugh uses .510 bullets as do the few 50 Alaskan and 50-110 Revolvers that are out there... beer

...as does the 50 Special. Strictly speaking the bore of True Fifty measures .500 and uses a .510 bullet to fill the grooves. These new fangled 500s are technically Forty-Nines. Cool

Gary Reeder has a 510GNR that uses .510 bullets. Here's mine.

The 500 Special uses a .500 diameter bullet not a 510 diameter bullet. Just as the 500 Mag uses a .500 diameter bullet.

Redhawk,

The 50 special is Hamilton Bowen's creation and pre-dates the 500 S&W and 500 Special by many, many years. It does indeed use a .510" bullet.

There was one other 50 special, a 500 S&W Special, intended to offer an alternative to the 500 S&W Magnum, with one one difference, a shorter case, but still a "49". It was featured in one of the handgun magazines but evidently it never made general production.

I don't have my Bowen book handy, but I think it was the same as a 44 special, 1.16".

recoilpad Where are you from. I am SE of Dallas.
I have a 500 Linebaugh a stocked reloading/gun room and a range. If you want to try out your bullets we can. I have a rack that we used for the penetration test at a Linebaugh Sim. If you just want too shoot we can do that too.

Hey Chad,

Good to see you on here. John and Mike both told me I missed a good shoot this past summer.

Hey Chad,
I am north of Dallas in Allen. I have Encore barrels that shoot .510 bullets; in fact one of them is in .500 Nitro Express from SSK industries. I don't reload, but I have accumulated components for the day that I do. Thanks for the invite; I would like to take you up on it. PM your phone number and we will talk.
Chuck
