Not quite sure the word I'm looking for, but the interchangable compensators at the end of the x460 barrel. I'd seen some solid ones a while back, I think on here, to replace the compensated ones. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about, and/or where to find one? Cannot stand shooting that revolver with the comp. Feels like a punch in the face every time I pull the trigger and ended up hearing all sorts of funny out of my left ear for 1+hrs after shooting 10 rounds through it last week. (with plugs and muffs! outdoors!)

What kind of plugs and muffs are you using?

Regular foam plugs and Leighton (sp?) muffs. The muffs are cheapies (~$25), that's why I add plugs when I shoot the big/loud stuff.

If your ears ring after shooting you are right to be concerned. That said, not all ear muffs and foam ear plugs are made equal.

1. For foam ear plugs, I use the ones made by E.A.R., Inc.. They're firmer than many other plugs and give a better seal in the ear.

2. For ear muffs, don't go with the cheapies. Go with the ones that have the best dB rating. The decibel is a measurement on a logarithmic scale so even a 1 dB increase in the rating is significant.

I shoot pretty much the same gun you do and my ear plugs and ear muffs give me adequate protection. If you wish to step up the protection about another 10 notches, go with custom fitter E.A.R., Inc. electronic hearing protectors and wear them under ear muffs; if you did that you'd probably be good for a 105 mm howitzer.
