I have the taurs 454 and belive it to be stronger than any S&W. With handloads I've gotten groups just under 2" at 50yds. I had a S&W m29 and it shot loose in 1/5yrs Rugers are built hell for stout and will last longer than any S&W with the same loads and repeated shooting. Max range will depend on you. lar

I plan on sticking to factory rounds. I shoot the Win. Supreme 250gr NP in a Marlin 1894p and have had great luck with it. I would think the S&W would hold up well if I don't shoot anything hotter than this. The 629 i have now is alot smoother and more accurate than the redhawk I had.

If the DA Rugers are too big for you forget the Super Redhawk. For a decent grip, the Taurus Raging Bull or the Dan Wesson would fit the bill. Other then that, you're pretty much looking at S&W now days. The Anaconda is only available used or from the Colt Custom Shop, and pricey to boot.

Since you already got the 629, I would get a Super Redhawk just to have something different. The SRH has very cool built in scope mount system. That Stealth Hunter will cost more and those factory mag-na-ports may affect the accuracy. Plus the Stealth is muzzle heavier than the SRH. By the way, that 5" 629 of yours is one cool double action. I am hoping that Smith will beef up the 629 and start chambering a 5-shot 45 Colt and 480 Ruger, especially in the Mountain Gun configuration. I think that I am dreaming again. Good luck!

I think you should unload that barely tolerable 5" 629 and upgrade. Please contact me . Personally I don't feel handicapped with my 6 1/2" 629 Classic. Though I haven't done much hunting with it, I would personally limit my hunting shots to about 50 yards, maybe a tad more, but know from rock shooting it can make good hits a lot farther than that. I've only killed one muley with it, but the 240 swc worked great. As said before, accuracy boils down to personal skill and a good load. I have a friend who is amazing at the 200 meters ram with his Redhawk and open sights. Good luck, but I think you already have what you need.

I have both ,the SRH 44 mag 9 1/2" barrel & the raging bull 454(5 1/2"-6") the SRH has a smaller sized grip than the raging bull has,for my smaller hand size ,I have no problems with either one,for those with larger hands, the raging bull is a better sized grip,a few of my buddies say the SRH grip is to small,but..... it's perfect size for my hand,my suggestion is this, try to shoot all the different one's you are interested in,see what is right for you,or at least get to a gun shop and handle them all,see what your comfortable with. The SRH is one rugged built revolver! mike

Why do you want a double action revolver? I use a stainless Ruger Blackhawk Bisley in .45 colt with a 5.5" barrel for bore hunting in Texas. The Bisley grip frame is extremely easy to hold and handles recoil better than the standard grip. I like the iron sites better than a scope for this type of work as well. And the .45 Colt can be handloaded to be more powerful than the .44 Mag, or you can buy loaded hunting ammo from makers like Buffalo Bore. I have taken hogs out to 80 yards with this setup and feel comfortable enough to take longer shots! Good Luck with whatever you go with.

The factory Redhawk grips are too big for you? I thought they felt like I was trying to hang onto a skinny broom handle. I'd agree that if the Redhawk grips are too big, then the SRH will be also.
