Recently there was a thread on speedloaders and the Ruger Super Redhawk 480 revolvers. This is a follow-up to it. HKS makes speedloaders for SRH 454 Casull revolvers. Those of you who own one of these, is there sufficient mass in the body to turn 454 speedloader's chambers to contain 480 brass? 454 brass has base dimension of .480 inch and rim diameter of .512 inch. 480 Ruger has base dimension of .504 inch and rim diameter of .542 inch. Sorry. Just trying to add some levity to the forum. What model is it? The only one I could find on their website for a Super Redhawk fit the .44 mag/special. I couldn't find one for the .454/.45. Naphtali, the only one I could find that works on a Redhawk is the same one that works with the Super Redhawk, but again, it is for a .44. Maybe they made one but discontinued it? I used a Model 25-5 speedloader for my Super Redhawk in .454 Casull. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out. | |||

Wall thickness between cartridge holes is 0.021". The holes measure around 0.520" If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out. | |||

Well [expletive deleted]! From your numbers there is insufficient mass to alter the body. Okay, Plan B. Are HKS revolver speedloaders able to be disassembled, then reassembled by owners? Are differences between rigid cartridge and wobbly cartridge speedloaders different? If they are, are these differences significantly when disassembling either? It's so simple to be wise. Full moon clips are the way to go, don't have to fiddle with releasing bullets from a speed loader, nor do you have to worry about a case getting under the extractor.  http://www.moonclips.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=60&cat=%2E480+Ruger No I haven't gotten around to modding my srh, but this is the way to go. Paul: I understand how one can use moonclips or not with rimless case such as 45 ACP. What occurs when 480 would be shot without its head support? I am assuming the moonclip engage forward of the rim, rather than engage the rim. Were this accurate, would not deleting the clip leave about .071 inch of naked brass at how many thousand CUPs?
