sooo, just got back from a meat hunt, re shoot, and figured i'd post some results from this seasons hunts. i just shot a fallow deer 2 months ago at 125 yards with my FA 10" 454 casull. changed some things up this year and started deviating away from the ole' cast bullets and used some barnes xbp pistol bullets in the federal load. wow, what a great load. flat shooting, doesn't kick much at all. very very accurate out of my gun. the shot was a bang flop all the way, i guess that load at that velocity just lets a bunch of that energy get imparted into the animal. the round expands to over an inch in diameter and had a little .5 inch hole on the way in and about a fist sized exit hole. deer literally just got knocked over on it's side and off it's feet and pretty much vaporized the lung tisse, jelled most of the heart. deer kicked 3 times. the guide was blown away and said it was the most damage internally of any deer he'd seen shot with any gun, rifle or pistol. certainly not the most powerful pistol round on any parameter you could find but it just plain works. my 14 year old son used his .44 mag for an axis. quite a good shot as well. not a bang flop but a dead deer none the less.

so my bud was intrigued and used them to shoot a cow elk that tipped the scales just over 400lbs gutted. a big old cow. hit her at a paced off 70 yards about 3 days ago. right through the shoulder. didn't knock her over like the deer obviously but she jumped straight up and face planted head first and kick about 4 times and was dead. so far, the shortest distance any elk i've been a part of shooting traveled yet. same results as far as exit hole and damage done, huge huge internal damage and complete pass through with a nearly fist sized hole. really really outperformed the "ballistics" on this round. i couldn't be more impressed with these rounds and i will be using them pretty much exclusively from here on out unless for experimental purposes. all that with easy easy recoil. MV is about 1550fps as advertised for a 250 grain round out his 7.5" srh and almost 1800fps out of my 10" FA, (avg 1770). if you want hotter the corbon dpx are 100-120 fps faster. anyway, just thought i'd share the results.

Excellent! Sounds like that load is a winner and you can't argue with the results! Now let's see some photos! beer
