I have a friend that inherited a security six ruger .357. He was wondering how strong this frame is. I'd don't shoot those small bore straight case rounds anymore, so if anybody knows what this frame is comparable to in strength, I'd appreciate the info: SW-19? Colt trooper? SW -586? I know its not on par w/ the N frames.

If he sticks with industry standard loads, he'll probably never wear it out. Any gun can be damaged if run hot enough. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

I have a pre-warning Security Six, SS, 4". It's a very good, strong revolver, and I have shot many factory equivalent stiff loads in it, max Speer 160 gr. JSP bullets. Stands up just fine, and is a very comfortable packing piece for bustin' around out in the boonies. Many years ago I replaced the grips with Herrett's walnut grips, sanded down and refinished to smooth texture. I like that better than checkered grips. As to strength of frame, I'd GUESS it to be equivalent to S&W's 586 frame. Actually, I don't carry it anymore, as my wife stole it from me, and when we're out in the mountains, that's the handgun she totes. I don't reload beyond Speer book max, and don't see any need for anymore speed. YMMV. Good luck. L.W. "A 9mm bullet may expand but a .45 bullet sure ain't gonna shrink."

Strengthwise , the Security Six is on a par with most any factory .357 ever made , and they will take thousands of full-bore rounds . It is one gun Ruger should still be making .

It was one of the best handguns ruger ever made I own a couple. It leaves the K frame smiths in the dust in the number of rounds one can run through it. I had one I put thousands of rounds of full house 357 and 10of thousands of .38 rounds throught it. My brother inlaw still has it and is still shooting it. i would hate to guess how many of rounds it has through it now.
