When dealing with a 45 colt, is there much of a benefit to go with a 5 shot over a 6 shot cylinder? I understand that the 5 is stronger, but if you're staying around 30,000 is the 5 shot needed? Thanks

In a Ruger? Nope. The six-shot cylinder is more than adequate and more than up to the task at those levels.

And what is the max level a 6-shot Ruger cylinder can handle? No, I don't mean right up to a catastrophic failure, but where is the max that someone can safely load to in this revolver? Just curious to see where the line is. From information received from BB ammo, their 325 gr. load is right at 30,000 CUP.

The standard blackhawk 45 colt( according to John Linebaugh and HP White labs ) will fail around 60,000 chamber pressure.

Therefore, you have double the safety margin on loads in the 30,000 pound range as a steady diet. Of course you can load YOUR gun to whatever "safety margin" you desire set for yourself. Cool ( trying to convey humor )

Most folks will find that the old 45 Colt will fill all their needs when loaded to this level.
