Hey, he might, you never know! hilbily

That is my impression of what the firearm was designed for, although tigers were the original animal of concern. The boy may just be onto something.

I will be using a rifle, either .243 or .223 (I know it's too small, etc.....) but will be carrying a Sig 226 40 on the hip with 155 g. Laser Cast slugs at 1,297 fps.

Used this load while out chuckar hunting a couple of years ago to take a small mulie buck.

Not too small IMO........

I'll be using my trusty old M29 .I'd really like to have a reproduction of the Lancaster 4 barreled howdah which originally was chambered in 450.That would be the ultimate COOL ! Smiler

Well BFR, give me a month or so and I'll be alot closer, still a couple states away, but there the smaller eastern states, lol. This move is kind of dragging along. We were hoping to be moved by now, but with my bad back I can only do so much in a day. There is snow in the mountains now and the wife is getting nervous.

I take my hat off to you lads that hunt with your handguns. I think hitting big game with a handgun is extremely difficult at best. I've never been a very good shot with a handgun and in fact found that I could shoot smaller groups with my bow than any of the pistols that I had at 40 yards. I was shooting a compound bow but shot instinctively,(without sights), and used fingers not a mechanical release and could group 6 arrows into a saucer at 40 yards if I practiced a lot. I was able to harvest around 50 critters with my bow when I bowhunted more than I do now.

But with a handshooter.......not so.

Granted I probably practiced more with the bow than with any of the pistols but still admire those that take game with iron sighted handguns.

BTW - eye problems - in the last few years my eyes have changed and I can't focus the sights with my glasses on .The glasses are for distance. Last year I got my deer despite this but I wasn't happy. This year I'll try something different. Without my glasses I can focus the sights though the target will be a bit more fuzzy. I did some shooting without glasses and was able to hit most of the time a 4" target at 50 yds or more !! I think I can get a deer as my comfortable distance is within 60 yds . Wink

Can't decide between my S&W Model 14 or 60. Lyman 358429 ahead of 4.5 grains of Unique.

Yup , I did it again ! Big Grin Federal Swift A-frame 280 gr in my M29 .50 yds , standing [offhand] ,raise gun and fire in no more than 2 seconds ! Another one shot kill .A-frame worked though no real challenge as it was a lung shot just knicking two ribs and exiting . Years of metallic silhouette certainly paid off . Smiler

I am going to get out my first S&W 44 Mag, a Mod 29-2 6 1/2" blue.

I have had this gun since 1971. I carried it as a work gun for several years.

I am going to shoot my hard cast [Linotype] Keith bullet, H&G mold 503 [I think I have the number correct]

Back in the day I loaded with 22.5gr of 2400, and later 22gr of 2400, but now I load 21gr of 2400, still using old 2400. It is easier on the gun, and I cannot tell any difference in performance.

I am going to try to hunt and kill a doe or two, and a couple of pigs.

Of course if I see a BIG buck I will shoot him too.

Heck, I might even shoot something with my Mountain Gun, same load of course.
