How many states have handgun hunting only seasons? Here in Washington State you have to hunt with all the modern firearms hunters. I've written to the Fish and Wildlife Dept. but they just say things are going to stay the same. Fuzz

Hey Fuzz, it is the same here in South Dakota, Handgunners must hunt in the Regular Firearms Season. I too have written to the Dept. of Game, Fish & Parks, and was told that there are so many different groups that desire SPECIAL HUNTING Seasons, they can not all be accomodated, without overlapping one another.

Well that is what I have done for the past 19 years is use my Handguns during the Regular Firearms Season. For the most part, I have always Hunted with a Speciality Handgun, chambered for a long range cartridge.

Here in NC you hunt with the longgun hunters. I have been trying to get the regulation that governs the handgun ammo that is legal to include many of the advances made in the last 5 years. Hopefully the changes will be published next year. As things stand now tow of the wildcats that I have are not legal because the necking process turns the round into a bottleneck cartridge. One takes the .445SuperMag and necks it to .41 gives, 2x the power of the .41RemMag. The .445SM is legal, the .41RemMag is legal but the wildcat .41 isn't because it is now bottlenecked and isn't 2.00 inches long as loaded.
Keep at them, write letters, attend hearings, make your wishes known. It has taken me 7 years to at least see the new light at the end of the tunnel. Won't quit until the regs are changed.

Pennsylvania is nooooo different !

We hunt in the regular firearms season and we are not allowed to use handguns in the "shotgun only" areas.

GO figure !

The one thing about here in Washington state is that we can use wheelguns in the firearm restricted areas,..you know "Archery, Shotguns" and now revolvers. But I agree with you Fuzz, let's keep at them. Maybe they would let us hunt with the muzzle loaders. Some of us only get one shot also. Slim

You guys are lucky you can use handguns to hunt in the US. Here in Canada I can only use my handguns on a registered and government approved range.

There are a bunch of us that know that Mike and we work hard to keep it that way. But there are still a bunch of hunters that can't see the point of belonging to the NRA and helping to keep up the good fight. You have my sympathy and respect for trying to hold on. Keep up the good fight. Slim

crawfish we just got the law changed in Wis last year. We had a 357 41 and 44 rule for 20 plus years now you can use any center fire cal. 22 or bigger that could be use in a rifle as long as the pistol has at least a 5.5 in barrel measured from the firing pin. So if you would want to make a 25 auto with a 5.5 in barrel it would be a legal deer gun. This law change opens all types of possibileitys for interisting gun and ammo combo's.
