Anyone shoot the 300 Nosler HP? Shoot any game with it? Is it ultra soft or does the weight help keep it together for decent penetration. I found sierra 300 grain 44 mags to be a tough bullet that made a very large mushroom and held together. Problem is they are too long for the taurus tracker so I am loading the Nosler 300's. -------------------- THANOS WAS RIGHT!

The only Nosler HP I would use on game would be the Partitions. Some of the other HP bullets have to thin of a jacket, that allows the bullets to expand to rapidly and giving poor performance. Have you given hard cast bullets a thought? In my opinion, they out perform them jacketed bullets. JMHO. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. Couldn't agree more! You want penetration and a flat-point hardcast will do that better than a jacketed expanding bullet. To add insult to injury to the jacketed bullet, they're even cheaper! Of course the hardcast will be better. But I cant pay $77 for a box of 500 hardcast right now. The partitions are $46 for 50. The nosler 300's are $22 box of 100. They are actually the lowest price for 44 bullets that I found. I am loading for my brother in law who will be carrying the .44 while out fishing. -------------------- THANOS WAS RIGHT!

Jacketed soft point bullets sooner or latter wil let you down.. This past season I shot a nice hog (50 yards) with a 300 grain jacketed flat point loaded by Corbon. This is a 1300 FPS 45 colt load. I hit the hog right where the shoulder joins the rib cag and the hog imediately took off. I got a good look at the left side of the pig and saw a 3 or 4 inch red spot on the entry side (left). The hog ran with absolutely no sign of a problem and all that I found was blood on the stalks on the entry side and none on the exit side. When I ran out of stalks I ran out of a blood trail... No blood was found on the ground and the pig was not recover. I am tptally conviince that a flat point hard cast bullet would have exited and this hog would have been recovered.. _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

$22 for a box of 100, that is $110 for 500 of them before shipping, I just bought a box of 500 of the 280 gr. hard cast with gas checked bullet from Montana Bullet works for $131.57 shipped for my 44 Mag. I would check him out on your next bullet order, you get better bullets for almost the same price. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. My son shot several of the 300gr Nosler HP into a 350+ lb boar in Missouri last year and all were pass thru and put a hurtin on that ole boy right quick. One of the holes in the off side shoulder was 2" and quite nasty. They are big enough to penetrate well and soft enough to open up some leaving a large deep wound cavity. They are a good value when it comes to price for performance. I would not hesitate to use these on anything in the states or plains game in Africa. They are quite accurate as well. BTW, I shoot the hard cast at times too and for anything less than dangerous game where the ultimate penetration is needed, these perform just fine. The only jacketed bullet that held together better in my testing were the 270gr Gold Dot SP and they were too hard and barely mushroomed at all.
