Dam handguns do not work at all.

If his .41 was loaded with 240 grain bullets, he obviously understands the concept of deep penetration! But p dog shooter is right, handguns are useless........

I know you guys are being facetious. If it was you and grizzly bear, you'd bite its throat out if your teeth were the only weapon you had. A couple years back, a guy killed one whith his Buck knife. I'll bet if this guy had a CHOICE, he'd have picked a bazooka.

Any crew-served weapon would suit me fine.......

Can one aquire a suitable holster for the Bazooka?

You might have to check your gun laws, I think if you cut down a bazooka and shorten the stock it would be agents the law....lol

But get the next best thing, a S&W 4 inch 500 Mag....

p dog -- they don't visit us much here. They think we drink the KoolAid and our handguns are equal to a slingshot when dealing with dangerous game. I don't feel my big handguns are a last resort option, they actually kill very well.

Some actually use them as there primary.

Sounds like perfect shot placement for a hand gun and a charging bear.

I was thinking about a certain member who claims to be from the mts out west who stated no one no matter how well trained one was could stop a charging bear with a hand gun.

He is very absent when you find proof that hand guns work.

p dog, I'm sure he doesn't stand alone with his opinion on the effectiveness of the handgun. Generating as little "power" (no, I'm not going there) as they do compared to rifle cartridges, they cannot possibly stop a pissed off animal with the intent of eating you. Many folks just aren't that open minded, I guess.......

C'mon guys, even when no one is there, you are loking for enemies! Look at the quote above. Did this guy do a fast draw while lying on his back? Assuming that the holster had a strap, the "tell me how fast that is" is BS. The shot was not well placed, but lucky! And, our hero was convicted of a federal poaching charge.

Point well taken jwp, but he is still alive! I suspect that he would take the deal offered! The article also said he lost a chunk of meat under his arm. I don't know whether that was from his arm or from his side.

The point is that the handgun did the deed and from what I can infer, it did the deed quite well......and that's good enough for me!

I have hunted with Guys that claim they could smell game (Bears,Deer,etc). I can't smell much of anything...

I've smelled black bears here in CA. They smell like a pig pen. Strong, sour ~ unless they've bathed recently. I didn't smell the ones I seen in ID/CO as they were further away however, judging from what they do w/ripe elk gut-piles, its a safe bet their breath stinks too. Now what w/onset of age and parkinsons diease, the sense of smell is the first to go so we think our 'silent vapors' don't stink (which explains why seniors are referred to as 'old f--ts').

Shucks ~ until just now, thot everyone could smell'em.

Once a poacher.........??? The whole story is BS!! Read it in the original a couple times.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but Macifej, that is a GREAT signatute picture! Very funny!

A lucky shot or a very skilled placed shot they both work for me. As long as the attack stops I could care less how it happened.

As for smelling bears I have done that several times out berry picking. When you have smell them you know they have been close.

As for the fast draw could have been a thumb break.

I guess some of you need more paractice drawing.

How fast was it who knows when under duress time does strange things.

One thing we don't know is how active of a shooter was he, how much he paracticed ect.

What I don't understand is attacking the guy for defending himself.
