I used the 300 XTP loads a number of months ago on a big sow and they worked really well. Very accurate.

Ruger Old Vaquero 5.5" Stainless in 44 Mag.

Just seems to git "er done.

whitworth, any idea on how those performed, obviously adequately, but did you recover any or did you think they opened. i've had good luck on them opening at casull velocities on elk but never used them in the .44 mag on game.

It exited, so it penetrated adequately, and it looked like it didn't open much if at all judging by the internal damage. That said, it killed well and was accuate beyond my expectations.

Two favorites for large critters. My Ruger Blackhawk 10.5 44 magnum which will soon sport an Ultra Dot, and my Bowen customized Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt.

I don't have a picture of the Blackhawk, but this one is my favorite....a hog killing machine

The Colt is about the perfect packing pistol, the Wildey would be on purpose

I have two: a contender 14" with two barrels. .44 mag and .221 fireball. Also have a S&W 6 1/2" model 57 in .41 mag.

Well mine is the 480Ruger with a 325g bullet @ 1400 ft/sec....


BUT

This weekend I finally shot my Blackhawk 45 Colt and was it a sweet shooting gun

Granted it was only 10 yards and was a cowboy load... but still it exceeded all my expectations.

I am looking forward to getting hunting / backup load with that…

I have a few I really like, my Redhawk and Black in 475 Linebaugh, my 5 shot blackhawk 45 Colt and my S&W 500 mag..

I only have one choice,...I know I need to correct that!

S&W 629 Classic DX in .44mag 240gr jacket hollow points for when I have to bust brush to get the deer up.

well, first off my FA 7.5 83 454 would be my off the cuff answer, but i use the 10" 454 more for hunting and have started liking it more and more........but i've got a unique 44 mag, a SW performance center model with 6.5" barrel, unfluted cylinder and the cool kinda angled barreled the perf centers have but it's a blued gun. very limited run i was told and it's just beautiful and has the best trigger i've ever shot on a pistol, ever. it's a real fun one to shoot and look at.

500 Linebaugh 5 1/2" shooting a 440gr LFN-GC or a 450gr Keith both with a .5" nose and at 1,150 fps.

Short range/brush hunting: Redhawk Stainless .44mag 5 1/2"
Bisley Blackhawk Stainless .45colt 5 1/2"
Smith & Wesson M29 .44mag 4" blue

Long Range: Super Redhawk .44 mag 9 1/2", usually with 4x scope
Redhawk Stainless .45colt 7 1/2", iron sights or 2x scope
T/C Contender .44mag 14", with 4x scope

Varmints: T/c Contender - choice of .22 Hornet 14" OR .222 Rem 14" - both have 4x scopes

I like my Contender in 35 Rem. for hunting out West.Around here for stand hunting I use the 475.My carry gun for bow hunting is a Ruger Bisley in 45 Colt.

Texas. That is a beautiful pistol. I really liked my Freedom Arms 454 . But the 2 finest revolvers I,be ever handled are John Linebaugh Bisleys. Both are 500 Linebaughs.

It would have to be a Bisley 475 John built for me in the early 90s.

For carrying, it's my M57 S&W 6", stoked with 210gr hardcast SWC, but if small game is on the list, the Ruger BH .30 Carbine, w/4 5/8" full of Lee 100gr roundnose, cast hard is the choice.

It's just a Bowen Nimrod that I picked up used a number of years ago. His website lists the specifics.
