Before you buy a Taurus you might check the cylinder lockup. I have an 8 SS 454 Raging Bull that is extremely loose compared to a Dan/Smith/Wesson. I am considering a Ruger Black Hawk with no more than a 6 barrel in 45 LC for a Deer pistol. The 454 is just to darn heavy to carry arround all day. But I did take a nice fat Doe with it two years ago.

Just a thought, in some states, the .45 LC doesn't qualify for handgun hunting because it doesn't have big enough factory ballistics. ( Yep, I know it can be loaded hot,and it's a great cartridge, but I didn't write the rules for what qualifies.) Usually no question with the .41,.44 or .454, as the factory loads are fast enough / w/ enough foot lbs. of energy. Art in Wyoming

I also read Mr. Shoemakers article in HANDLOADER and completely agree. If you can't control the gun and place an accurate shot with a deeply penetrating bullet a .470 isn't going to do you any good. My woods gun is a S&W M657 .41 Magnum. I have both the Mountain Gun and standard barrel configurations. The Mountain Gun weighs 4 oz. less than the standard gun but the balance is different. The "BEAR" load is 22 grains of H110 with either the 255 or 265 grain Cast Performance HC WNGC bullet. Velocity is right at 1200 fps from a 4" gun....penetration is unreal. Using the rubber Hogue Monogrips there is no shifting of the grip when the gun is fired so fast followup shots are not a problem. If you have a .41 and don't reload both Federal and Buffalo Bore have 250 grain solids that will do the job. For a more padded grip try the standard Pachmayr Presentation. If they don't have them in round butt just get a used pair of square butt for $10.00 and use some silicone to fill in the bottom to make it conform to the grip. Bob
