Should I be "Ashamed"???
All I did was post the results of an "Unscientific" penetration test, of shooting a pig with a 45 ACP, in a Commander.

Remember I stated it was "Unscientific", you know for general info...

How does such a first post, cause responses to go into a Hatfield and McCoy "Quantum Physics" Fued???

I will not take total blame, shameafter all my [unnamed] buddy fired a few shots in to the pig with the 45 ACP as well...

I'm a firm believer in real world testing trumping equations when it comes to ballistics. Granted, one real world test does not account for the variables encountered from one scenario to another, but it provides tangible evidence when testing a particular projectile/caliber. I don't think you should be ashamed at all. For those who want to know whether a fast .270 provides similar ballistic performance to a slower .45-70, I say get out there and shoot something with both to draw conclusions from.

I agree that proven scientific equations/laws/theories can be a great framework, but the proof comes when the lead (copper, etc) hits the meat.

Yes you need real world info. Winchester developed a fancy rifle bullet by their computer types with little field testing. It was a failure !!
Then back to reality they redesigned it with considerable field testing - that one worked.

No, you shouldn't be.

If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

You didn't do anything wrong. You might go back out and do another testing of penetration with same firearm and get something different then your last results. Then try different loads. Sometimes there is no ideal situations on testing. I know I will get flamed but. I carry my 45acp. while hunting. I would not be afraid to use it on an animal. Exspecailly on my elk hunting. Have elk within 7yds. to 10yds. and try to put a rifle bead on them are hard at times. My feeling on the subject is use what best that works for you in the situation that you are in at the time.

Nothing wrong at all. Realize penetration alone does not kill fast. That is where the discussion starts.

No you did nothing wrong. Next time though, you should do your testing on live wild beasts and post pictures!
Unfortunately , there are a few obnoxious types here who seem to run off more interesting people. It’s too bad.
