So full of it?
I talked with an IDPA shooter this morning and asked him how he thought I did with a Ruger SP101 at 41 yards offhand and his reply was 'if you practice more you will be able to get them down to 1 1/2 inch group.' I had 4 in 51/2 inches with one slightly out of the group.
Another buddy of mine was extolling the greatness of his XD and said he could hit a quarter offhand every shot at 21 yards.
Needless to say I got him to the range and put up a quarter at 10 YARDS and he missed it 3 out of 3. He was also missing a 14 inch steel plate at 41 yards with everything else too including his XD
What is the explanation of this incurable disease called "fecesfullness"?

The vast majority of my shooting/hunting/shotgun sports friends are pretty subdued. No braggers, as most probably know I'd "Call them out" to prove their brag.

I knew a local hunter who was a HUGE Weatherby Mag rifle fan. The sun rose and set on Weatherby rifles. And unless a given ctg was loaded with the lightest slugs for the max velocity it wasn't a good load.

We listened to his BS hunting and shooting stories long enough. Finally a few of us called foul when he was telling the story of the 500 yd, off hand, in the head, deer shot for the fiftieth time. We bet him that at 500 yds he couldn't keep ONE shot out of FIVE on a THREE foot circle.....much less a deers head.

Needless to say he never shot. He DID go out and see what five hundred yds looked like with a laser rangefinder and thought it was a thousand.

I'll listen to the insufferable braggers a short time, then ask them to "Show me how You do that". Usually ends it all pretty quickly.

You got that right! Our Rod&Gun Club has sight in days every fall. We have people show up with a rifle box under one arm, and a Cabela's bag in the other...yep! You guessed it...scope in a box, rings and bases in a box, and two boxes of "bullets". They want us to set the package up and sight it in for them. So, I do, and then I ask them how far away they think the swinging target pig is away (200M, silhouette) invariably I hear 350-400 yards. Some actually have to walk it because they won't buy the 200M answer...has to be farther than that. We had a guy show up for an IPSC match this spring, with a brand new STI in 38 Super...woof-woof about 1" ten shot groups at 50 yards. Deadly kinda guy with any handgun out to 200 yards or so. Couldn't clean the plate rack at 15 yards, 8" plates... He hasn't come back since. I'm probably the only guy in the club that will admit to being "...just a decent shot...with a handgun?.

5-1/2" offhand at 41 yd's? Tell the other guys to stuff it! I shoot decent offhand but not great. From sandbags with my revolvers I get under 1" at 50 yd's and have a bunch of 1" groups at 100 yd's.
I would say from offhand you will beat me silly. And all the rest of those guys. Be proud of your shooting and ignore those that just talk. I can't match it without sandbags.

5.5 inchs at 41 yards good shooting there are some better but a whole lot worse.

I have a measure 700 yard range it is a eye opener for lots of people to have them stand at the 500 yard line and look at the back stop.

anyone that can shoot 1.5 inch at 40 yards with an sp offhand should be considering quiting his day job and looking for sponsorship or going to confession!!!
