Looking at a "Ruger New Model Blackhawk" in .41 mag. The store wants $349.99 out the door (no tax)...

What is the difference in the blackhawk vs the Super blackhawk?

What are yalls thoughts on the .41 mag?



I figure Marko will be happy to see im looking at larger caliber pistols at the moment...One of the local stores has a scoped Freedom Arms .454 Casull but the price is a little more then what I am wanting to spend.

Also saw a Super Blackhawk blued in .44 mag for $399 and a Super Blackhawk Stainless for $450.

The 44mag is the better choice. More power, bigger diameter and a much better choice of ammo or bullets if you reload. No flies on the 41mag though if thats what you like. You can also shoot 44 specials in the 44mag if you don't handload for playing around or if you have a young shooter to share the revolver with. Who said you can't get both...and still be less expensive than the FA.

I think the thing that interested me in the .41 was the Elmer Keith history...that and I like off the wall calibers.

I think the .44 may be better as well (for options of ammo). But I have a feeling if I get either one I will eventually end up getting a .44 or .454 in the Ruger Alaskan.

The Ruger Alaskan makes for a great backup handgun but for hunting purposes, the barrel/sight radius is much too short. Look at the new Ruger Flat-tops, I have them in 41mag w/6-1/2" bbl and 44 Special (standard gripframe and Bisley in 4-5/8" and 5-1/2") and they handle quite nice. If you like Elmer, you will like the 44 Special too. I have (7) 44 Specials and like them all.

Been shooting a .41 since 1982. 1 Bear, lots of deer and varmint's. Shoots flat !!! 2" high at 25 yds,hold dead on at 80 or so. Cant tell much difference in recoil from a 44mag.(I cant anyways) Get it you will like it.

It's a good price and a great caliber, Justin. No flies on the .41 mag.

Ahhh, the world of choices....much as I like my .44s, there is nothing quite like the 45 Colt.

I am still on the fence on which to get. I am thinking I may be able to pickup the Blackhawk .41 mag for around 250-275 out the door. The stainless .44 mag I may be able to get around 440 out the door, and the .44 blued maybe 300-350 out the door.

If I could get a Vaquero for $250-$450 that was in nice condition....i'd be looking into a 45 LC

Fixed sight handguns make for a poor choice if you want a hunting handgun. You are pretty much stuck with just a few loads that shoot to a particular point of aim for that handgun since there is no adjusting the sights.

I have found that most of the 41 210 factory loads out penetrate the 240 grain 44 mag loads. Surprised me

I like the 41 better than the 44. Like jwp475 said, I found the 210 41 bullets penetrated farther. I have never been let down by it.

well i'm with jwp also the 41 is an awesome round and alot can be done with handloading.I had matching redhawks one in 41 and one in 44 i don't have the 44 anymore.I lost it one last hunt to my friend jeff who joined us on hunt he wouldn't go unless i sold him gun so in a weak moment i sold to a good home.

TBEAR, you don't need that .44 as long as you have that .41 mag!

that is what i figure although i do admit i miss not having a shooting 44.But i guess that is where the 475 and 500 come in.


being my wrist is still not up to par i plan to deer hunt with the 41 using 210 grn platinum tips

I guess I am a little prejudice. I would have done bought the .41 and be enjoying it.

How much did they want for the Freedom Arms? I regret not buying one several years ago when I had a chance

1200 bucks. 454 Casull, leupold scope, muzzlebraked. Don't know the model #

Looked at it again today. Looks nice

I've owned both,,I'll take the .41,,I like to go fixed sight/one load for a trail gun,,if they made a fixed sight double action in .44,,I might switch just for the array of factory loads,,I really like S&W 58s,,and it's a .41
