Quickdraw,

It is true that some are loading the 50 A.E. hotter in revolvers then in the D.E. but there is a limit at to which the 50 A.E. can be loaded in any repeating handgun.

The greatest advantage the revolvers have over the DE is that they can use the much heavier and much better designed hard cast bullets in the 350 to 440 gr range. This makes the revolver a much better choice as a big game hunting tool.

As we all know only bullets with a solid jacket cup can be used in the DE or lead vapor will fill the gas ports and ruin the cylcic ability of the handgun.

One disadvantage of the 50 A.E. no matter what handgun you use is that we can not use a roll crimp on the heavy bullets. I have found that anything much over 1200 fps with a heavy cast bullet without a roll crimp will start moving under recoil.

This is not a big deal if you consider a 440 gr WFNGC at 1200 fps make a hell of a big game round and is also quite managable to shoot.

A better round would be a rimmed version of the 50 A.E. but then now we have the monster 500 S&W. Personally I would have preferred just a rimmed version of the A.E.

I personally own an Encore 15" 50 A.E. and now use the 440 gr bullet at a relatively mild 1500 fps. Would shoot anything except the largest game with this handgun.

Would love to hammer a cape buff with this load at 40 yards or so.

Good Shooting!!!!

I've that people load the 50AE hotter in revolvers than for the Desert Eagle. What kinds of loads are people using? Anybody have experience with the round?

Thanks,
QD

I'm the happy owner of a Desert Eagle and a Freedom Arms both in .50 AE.

I have never had up to now problems to reload the revolver in .50 AE. I have shot bullets till 340 gr. This with full load N110, i crimp the bullet hard but not too much, i have never had any bullets in the cylinder moving during the shots. Of course I have 4 dies set, the first tools custom Honardy and a special crimp die custom from RCBS. that's work perfectly.
I use only it for my FA and don't want any others revolvers custom in that caliber than my FA 7,5".
