| I love mine. It was one of the first old model Ruger #5 grip frames Ron built and he sent it straight to Hamilton for my 41 Mag/41 Special #5 project. |

| I am not a fan of the #5 grip frame preferring the standard or Bisley one depending upon what the gun is chambered for. The #5 is nostalgic with a cool story. I own a TLA #5 44 Mag that I ordered and bought new from Bill Grover in 1993 after meeting with him at his shop. Nice gun but the handle just doesn't work for me. You might want to handle one before buying. |

| The #5 works fine for me upto around the 44 range. Anything bigger like 45,475 or 500 I want the bisley gripframe on. I find the carved grips on the Bowsn gun do actually let my hand maintain it's grip position better than the smooth stocks on the TLA even though I had Alan make those ivories with a thicker panel on the right side. |

I thought this was interesting - from John Taffin in Guns Magazine, Jan 11, 2011 "The Legend Lives". Of course, his earlier article when he just recieved a new Improved #5 has nothing but praise... Lipsey’s “No. 5” uses the Ruger Bisley Model grip frame which fits most sixgunner’s hands much better than the smallish Keith-style. I have fired the Texas Longhorn Arms Improved Number Five extensively in both .44 Magnum and .45 Colt, and I find the grip which was made to precisely fit Keith’s hand is very unforgiving in my hand. I have to concentrate mightily to maintain the same exact grip each time, or groups will open up. The Bisley Model grip frame from Ruger is much more forgiving and also allows room for my whole hand. I know felt recoil is quite subjective, but at least in my hand it is also just about the best factory single-action grip for reducing felt recoil. The picture above of Grover's Improved #5 does not look the same as the original or current reproductions such as the Bowen also above. Grover's has more of a sloping rear strap |

| The upper gun was one that JT used for his article and it does feature the Powers version of the #5 grip frame. The second picture is an actual TLA Improved #5 that was built from a TLA parts kit Stephen Webb bought from Bill Grovers estate. They are actually nearly identical. |

| Thanks for the clarification. From the photos, I had assumed that the back strap of the TLA drops at a flatter angle than the Power's #5 and figured that was the reason for some not liking the #5 grip. Taffin does write favorably of a #5 here: http://www.sixguns.com/range/Grover_Improved.htmbut perhaps after extensive testing, he prefers a Ruger Bisley for heavy loads? |

| I know this forum seems to lean more towards rifles and such but do you think there would be any interest in the classifieds for an unfired TLA Improved #5 in 44 mag? I have one I am going to move now that my 41 Mag is back and I could post it here for a few days before it goes to auction if there was any interest. Any thoughts would be apprecitated.
