It's the Puma M92-a copy of the Winchester Model 92. It was imported by Rossi but now I believe it is Howa who is bringing them in. I've been lusting after one myself. If you go to Gunsamerica.com and do a search you should find a listing & photo.

I have been thinking about one of these for my T/C Encore in a carbine length barrel. Is it true you can shoot 45LC ammo in the .454?

Yes, much like 44 specials in a 44 mag. I also like the '92 454 idea. Sort of a lightweight 45-70. Excellant. (Twiddling of fingers in the background) - Dan

I just purchased the above mentioned carbine. I paid $329 from www.tmcarms.com (list at $349 on that site, but on gunsamerica they have it listed at $329). I have only shot it with 45 colts so far but from 50 yards I was shooting 3 inch groups. When I get a chance to load some 454 cartridges, I will let you know how it works. So far, I am extremely happy with it and do not see myself getting rid of it anytime in the future.

A .454 carbine is an enticing thought. Best I know, model 92's usually take cartridges in the 40,000 PSI pressure neighborhood. The Casull spec is quite a bit higher than that. Why should we think this Puma M92 safe at casull pressures?? Inquiring minds want to know....

Your thoughts??

Read an article on the PUMA 92- They did beef up the action and side walls and used a different steel than normal 92's. The Puma was tested by a couple of the Gun rags as well an held up to there tests. I wanted one as well- but at the time that I had the money I couldn't get one to save my A**,so I settled for a Win 94 in 45 LC. [Smile] But the next time I can scrape up some money for a new toy I'll be looking again for that 454!! [Smile]

Hmmm. Wonder if they'll do one in 480? That would be sweet. - Dan

Thanks to Gunnut45/454 and MDF45 for the info.

A compact 454 lever gun is an intriguing proposition.

Thanks Johnny, but I prefer the 92 frame. Just handier, I guess. - Dan
