This may sound like a dumb question, but the info will be a big help. Should the loading gate on a Model 83 open when the hammer is all the way down, or should it only open when the hammer is at half cocked position? I would really appreciate an answer to this question.

The loading gate is independent of anything else so it can be open at anytime regarless. Under no circumstances would you want to leave the gate open while shooting it, as it can be extremely dangerous. Good luck.
