This stainless steel banded front sight base [shown] was sold recently. It is a Ruger M77 item. As described, it is unsatisfactory as a sight base for big bore revolvers because inside diameter of band is .550 inch. Is anyone aware of a similar stainless steel banded sight base satisfactory for big bore barrel diameters?

WHY? Put a base on the frame.

NECG does two different banded front sight bases, both feature interchangeable sight blades of different styles/heights.
I used the Universal on my Whitworth rifle.
They both have mounting provision for a hood.
Shipped in as-machined in-the-white steel, they can be finished any way you wish.
I engraved a fine matting (think file-cut rib) on the ramp portion of mine and plum-browned it then used the supplied set-screw and LocTite sleeve retaining compound (it'll never move until I want it to - highly recommend this over silver solder) to mount it to my barrel.
The bore of these sight bases is paralell, if your barrel is tapered (as is my Whitworth) you'll have to bore or lap it to fit.
To match your stainless barrel, you can have it nickel, chrome, or silver plated at your local plating shop.

Masterpiece
.551" - .827" inside diameter
Range of sight dovetail heights.
Push-Button Quick-Detach hood mount.

Universal
.610" - .768" inside diameter
Adjustable front sight height (elevation)
Allen screw hood mount.

Go to the newenglandcustomgun.com website and take a look.
Viewing the 'Front Sights' page (you'll see...) you click on the 'purchase now' button to get to the feature where you can see the different sizes (bore/height etc) from which to choose.
Look at the nice selection of sight blade options too.
Great stuff.

Cheers
Tinker
