It was a strange and hard season down South this year.

I started off the season with a trip to Arkansas and killed a 160 pound doe with my .358JDJ. Used the 200 grain Hornady PSP Interlock bullet ahead of AA2520. The shot was about 50 yards and through both shoulders. She went straight down and had a orange juice can size would channel through the shoulder area. Little did I know this would be the apex of my deer season.

Hunting around home was dismal to say the least. My practice kept me busy most of the season, but when I could get to the woods, no deer were to be found. I wasn't seeing any deer on the side of the road waving goodnight as they have done in years past. Only one buck crossed the road in front of me and he was hunting does. We saw very few rubs and scrapes in December, which is late for this area. A friend of mine told me he has photos of spotted fawns in food plots as late as early December.

Here's hoping next season will be better. Probably time to go hog hunting.

I am grateful for what I got, but with four young'uns to feed, she won't go far.

Hope next season is better for you too!

Any particular reason? Deer population down. Mainly nocturnal now?

The deer population is definitely up, with an extremely large doe to buck ratio. Most of the activity recorded on game cameras was nocturnal, but several friends reported not having many photos on their cameras.
