I am to the last Keg of old 2400. I understand that the New 2400 is quite a bit faster. In the 44 mag. I used 22gr of the old 2400 with my cast bullets. What should I load with the new 2400? DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

I use 21 gr. when I use the newer 2400. However, check accuracy with 20 & 20.5 gr. also.

It would make it easier if you told us the bullet weight. I am assuming you are talking a 240 gr. bullet. If that is the case 20.6 gr, is your max load suggested. http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipeDetail.asp...lid=1027&bulletid=87 If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. I couldn't tell you, Redhawk! I haven't used 2400 since 1991! "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." JWP If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming. Semper Fidelis "Building Carpal Tunnel one round at a time"

I wish they would take two readings, PSI and also CUP so we can compare to some of our manuals that only list CUP. I have heard it is faster but never seen anything from the powder company. It would be nice if they said so. Alliant has been very conservative with all load info unlike Hercules. So my guess is that it IS faster. For instance, my Hodgden manual shows a max of 19.5 gr's of 2400, 1400 fps and 36,000 CUP.

I still use 2400 for some rounds, but I use H110, W296 and Lil-gun the most for my handguns. I bought 4 pounds of H 2400 for my 44 Mags, now that I don't have a 44 Mag any longer, I want to us up all the 2400 I have. It sure is taking me a long time to use it up, I don't like how dirty it is. If you're going to make a hole, make it a big one. I used to load my .44s with 2400 as well. I have since switched to 296. You are correct in that 2400 is very dirty. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Yes they are 240gr bullets, sorry I left that out. Thanks for the info. I shoot and use a 4" S&W quite a bit and do not always need Thermonucler loads. I have found that if I throttled back the old 2400 a bit I still had good accuracy and power. I saveed the 22gr and the 22.5gr of 2400 for hunting specific loads. 20 and 21 grains of the old 2400 shot good for me as well. For light duty use I load Unique. I load on a machine that used fixed powder slides, so when I figure out the new 2400 powder charges I will have to get some new powder slides. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

22 grains of 2400 behind a 240 grain bullet was my standard load back then...... Now we are working loads with 296 and a 277 grain bullet...... "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." Win 296 will work extremely well in the 44 Mag with 240 grain bullets and be eaiser on the gun in the process than 2400 _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill
