I shot 3 deer with various revolvers, the .44, .500 JRH, etc.
I had a failure of the Bushnell red dot on my .44. I had a nice doe walking at 80 yards, had a perfect lead and I missed clean. She ran back into an open spot and stood there. I shot at her shoulder and missed but hit her in the neck, dropping her. I did not hit the spine so I cut her to bleed out.
I took the gun down the next day and from bags I only hit paper once with 5 shots and it was way off. I seen the dot high left and had trouble finding it. I took it off the gun and put the spare on, sighted it and then took 3 shots off hand at 100 yards. This is what I got.

I took the Bushnell apart and found nothing but all of a sudden, the dot was again in the center. The glass had not come loose so I think recoil had moved the tube and the spring stuck. I am going to buy another Ultra Dot.
I ran out of gun season into ML season so I took my .54 Hawken. My friend was put in a good spot and he shot a buck Monday morning. I didn't see but a small doe run behind me.
I went back that afternoon and had a large doe walk out. I took a good shot to have the cap pop. I had wiped the gun and shot 3 caps before loading.
I put another cap on, then a third that popped. She paid no attention and just walked behind trees. I poured powder in the nipple, forced it in with a pick and capped again. I looked left to see a 10 point but the cap popped again!
I fooled with the nipple again only to see the buck again. This time the cap popped and after a delay, it fired. I missed.
I loaded the gun again and the next morning I busted a large doe through the shoulders with a round ball.
I skinned her in a few days and the damage was too much. Smashed bone and blood shot meat. I cut half a shoulder and leg off with the hide.
But I have to tell you about the .500 JRH. I was walking and spotted a little doe looking at me in the thick, about 100 yards. I fooled with her and she walked right to me. At 30 yards I shot her in the neck. The boolit smashed one shoulder, mulched the lungs, liver stomach and half the intestines. A horrible mess to clean.
It would be the same if you just catch her, unzip her, turn her inside out and use a sledge hammer.

altho number 11 caps are fun can you legaly use musket cap? i can make number 11 caps fire a muzzsel loader everty time with out fail but ill tell ya what musket caps are a shit load easyer to do this with and the ignition is a shit load more positive.

personaly my self i shoot all flint locks not and have absoluly no hang fires or ignition problems but then again iv been using flint locks now for 15+ years

if possible place a small amount of wax on the nipple just prior to placing your number 11 on there that will solve 100% all moisture issues
from that end and from the other well it has a lead ball and patch to fix that.

and i always place either a dry wonder wad on top of the power between the patch and ball or ill use hornets nesting,or a small ball of wool to insulate the patch from the powder charge to prevent it from burning with mag charges and it tightens groups by 30% on adverage

I used some junk caps to clear and think a hunk of foil blocked the hole. I use nothing but Rem or CCI caps to shoot. This is the first time ever, I have had a failure with this gun.
I refuse to shoot RWS caps because I get metal stuck in my face, also some other foreign brand but I put a rag over the gun to use them to clear the nipple. I see a hunk of foil in the nipple and have to pick it out.

Handload -- homemade and designed 440 grain truncated cone cast bullet over a stiff charge of 296. We use the same load and it runs right at 1,350 fps from my BFR and his BFR has a longer barrel.

The one I shot with the .44 had the Bushnell on it that failed.
The .500 JRH has an Ultra Dot. I did not see anything when on stand with the JRH so I went for a walk. I spotted a deer looking at me at over 100 yards in the thick stuff. I raised the gun, let it down, too far and thick so I fooled with the deer. She dropped her head and walked right to me. She got in the clear at 30 yards so I shot her. I hit her in the neck, ruined it, the bones in one shoulder, the lungs, liver, stomach and half the intestines before the boolit left. What a mess to clean.
That darn gun is a grenade!
