Depending on your velocity, it would probably be on the lighter side of things, but I've also never shot elk or bear with them, just lots and lots of muleys and whitetails out of my .308. I run them out at just under 2900 fps in my .308 (rifle) and they've never failed me yet, complete penetration, but they also expand very quickly and expend energy, but when I was doing my "test shots" on game animals, I shot a pair of mule deer bucks broadside through both shoulders and the bullet did an outstnding job, penetrated completely and destroyed both shoulders, dropping both critters on the spot. If you're working at velocities lower than this, I bet they'd work fine, but you might want to work up a load for the 165 gr. BT, that's what I shoot out of my .30-06 for deer, and the same results happend, except not quite as much of a hematoma and loss of meat, but again, never had a failure. If it were me, I'd probably go with the 150 gr. Partition, just to make sure, but do some expansion tests and mke sure the ranges you're shooting at will have enough velocity to let the bullet expand. Let the 6 page thread begin! Yardbird
If it were me I would even go as far as using the Partition Gold bullets. I have had them recommended to me by people I feel I can trust. I will be using them in my .308 Win. Encore for elk. As a brief aside T/C Nut, where are you located at in Washington? I work in Seattle but spend a lot of my time at our place in Randle. Slim
I bet at those velocities that you would be just fine using the NBT for deer and elk, there isn't enough velocity for them to blow up badly. I've read of people raving about the 125 NBT's out of their .30-30 Contenders for bear and elk, you should be fine. I really thought you'd get more velocity than that from a .30-06, even in a pistol. Maybe I'll just go with a .30 BR or .308 in my Encore....thanks for the info. Yardbird
