Larry Kelly did it with a .44 mag. and a .375JDJ SSK/Contender, JD Jones has done it with the .375JDJ and I think a .45-70 SSK handcannon, Lynn Thompson did it with a Freedom Arms .454 Casull, and there are others, like Frank Murtland and Hank Gow, but I don't recall what guns they used. George, Our friend Mark Hampton was one of the first (if not the first) to take the Big 5 with a handgun (.375 JDJ). Regards, Terry

Hi Terry, I just couldn't remember if Mark had gotten his elephant. I knew it had taken him several trips to get his leopard. George

there was a gentleman that harvested a elpahnat with a 475 Linebaugh that got 3-4 feet penetration. His name was George ? A web site spoke of the specifics. www.mindspring.com/~ulfhere/ballistics/methods.html It wasn't up when I tried it. I don't know if it was deleted or the server just down. Hcliff

I'm belonging to the Big Bore handguns's fan. But for the elephant hunt I would prefer in all cases my rifle in .450 Ackley mag over any handgun calibers even the .500 Long and the .500 S&W. But I respect people who hunt elephant at short ditance with big bore handguns. With the .44 Mad and over you can hunt all animals living on this Earth.
