Planning a dehorned Super Redhawk conversion to 500 Lynbaugh...Similar to the one pictured on Bowens website.
What is there about the grip on a SRH that some say makes it unsuitable for heavy recoiling calibers??
Have a son who thinks he likes the swing-out cylinder as on our 29s.. Thanks for any thoughts,Grant.

I guess it depends on what grip you have on it now.

There are at least a couple differant ones from the factory and several after marget ones out there.

I have hogues on mine and shoot 315grers up to 1300 fps with out trouble.

One might have to try several to get the one the feels and fits you the best.

P dog. Thanks for the reply. I live in S.E. Minnesota near Rochester. If we weren't too far apart, we could get together and compare grips. Grant.

Those Bowens are nice. If you follow through, I have a stainless factory 4" Redhawk barrel bored to 50 cal by Cliff LaBounty and ready to mount. They're getting hard to find, as Bowen states.

The regular Redhawk like mine in 500 is a PIA to shoot because the full grip frame isn't cushioned well enough. It drives back into the palm like a wedge with less roll than a Blackhawk. Very painfull if your hands are
soft like mine. The SRH should be much better.

I feel the grip frame of the SRH is better than the Redhawk. Stick a set of Hogue Tamers on it and call it a day.

Thanks for the replies. Mr. Bowen told me he would indeed build me one. And he will build it on a SRH Alaskan. I have a small pile of cash piled in front of me on my computer desk...... But can't find a revolver for sale to start the project!
Tiggertate. Thanks for the mention of the 4" 50 cal barrel. But my big son and I are deciding between a 5 1/2, or a 7 1/2 inch. Mr. Bowen indicated he may have a 7 1/2 "lying around the shop somewhere".
Interesting and also frustrating was a call to Lipsey's...... the salesperson,( a lady,) was rather abrupt, and kind of snippy. When I inquired as to the availability of a SRH Alaskan, she retorted; "Good Luck. you won't get one from us." To which I replied; "Gee, your not very helpful". To which she replied; "Go to your local dealer and tell him to "put one on your wish list." To which I replied, rather loudly; "Your company sounds like you have way too many customers!" And she hung up.....
Guess I'll have to look else where.
Anybody run across one, or have any violent, hard-kicking, forehead creaser for sale. Let me know. Thanks, Grant.

P.S. Planning a large bore SINGLE action also, from one of the custom builders. Have some pre-64 Winchester 70s to move to finance this project.

Going to move this topic to the top, and keep a running commentary on the progress of obtaining a Ruger Super Redhawk 500 Lynbaugh.
Found a SRH Alaskan at a Gander Mountain here in Minnesota. I bought it and am having it shipped to my local Gander store. Hamiliton Bowen told me he prefers to build a .500 Lynbaugh like I want, on a SRH Alaskan. Well, whatever Mr. Bowen wants.......... This Alaskan cost me right at a thousand bucks to attain. Should be in my local store about Thursday, or Friday. My carry permit here in Minnesota expired, so I have to get either a permit to purchase, or get my carry permit renewed before I can take delivery. Am doing the paperwork on that now.
Then I can send the gun to Mr. Bowen; who tells me his six month to a year backlog is mainly due to the backlog of Jim Dubell who rebores his barrels to fifty cal. but might be catching up on his work, so as to shorten waiting time.
I am commisioning my first Bowen to be an adaptation based on a Super Redhawk model, because my 30 yr. old wants his first bigbore to have a swing-out cyclinder, like the two model 29s we currently shoot. Our next one will probably be a single action build.
I'll keep you posted on my progress. Grant.

Can't believe I mentioned I had some (15) old model 70s to be sold to finance this project, and never got a single enquiry!!!

You could have used an SRH in .44 Magnum with any length barrel as the foundation and it would have been a bit cheaper. Most importantly, you got your revolver now!

I had an SRH chambered in both .475 and .500 Linebaugh and they worked really well.
