While they have their detractor, these are semi custom revolvers that are hard to beat for fit and finish. They are very accurate and dominate several classes of IHMSA (metallic shilouette) worldwide.

There are numerous options regarding barrel length, sights, grip panels and calibers.

These revolvers are rather popular with handgun hunters and shooters alike.

I own a FA in 475 Linebaugh. Love the gun, extremely accurate. Keep your eyes open for a used gun as new ones are very expensive, and, many buy a 475 and find out that they are quite recoil intensive (= hardly used!). Do a search on this forum and you will find plenty of information.

They are hand assembled to exact tolerances, the fit and finish has no equals (in a production revolver), and they have a superb grip frame. As Peter said, you can find them on the used market for a good price.

I have one a 475 Linebaugh.

I have shot several different 454's as well.

I think they are the finest Single Action revolver on the Planet.

i have 4 in 454 and pretty much the best revolver on the planet imho. they're much stronger than rugers, magnum's bfr's with the ones made from 17-4ph steel on the frame will be as strong but fit and finish is nicer on the FA. i like the FA grip a bunch better than the bfr's. they also cost more than a bfr. i like the front sight blades better for the FA as well. they have more heights etc.

if they seem expensive ask yourself this question..........how much does the world's best rifles cost. now the FA price seems like a bargain.

If you can get one slightly used for 60% of the cost of a new revolver it's a good deal. They are very expensive if new. They are quite accurate I must admit and are built pretty tight.

I can remember once upon a time, when the NRA tested the Freedom Arms 22 LR revolver...

They stated it was THE MOST ACCRUATE 22 LR handgun they had EVER tested.

This included several different Olympic 22 LR's including the Hammerelli Free Pistol...

tradmark, could you elaborate a little on that? How would/could one tell which is which steel? Is it range of S/Ns or yr manufacture?
Thanks!

i'm not sure when they started making the frames from the same steel FA uses. for awhile it was different and they just used cylinders with the 17-4ph steel, then about a year or so ago i heard they went to using it in frames and cylinders. whitworth would prolly know for sure.

The issue of cost vs. quality is an interesting one. I do believe that my FA will last much longer than I will. I am talking quality not beauty here. Custom guns have many cosmetic features, as well as quality of fitting (metal to metal and metal to wood). I suspect that the cosmetic features add much more to the price than the quality. Ditto (IMHO) with many custom 1911's with fishscale metal work etc. etc. What attracts me to the FA is that all the cost goes into the quality and while they do look pretty good, the form follows function. Hope I am making sense here!
