This question applies to the 425 Stainless Steel Tracker, though I know it is dimensionally the same as the titanium model, it seems the SS version would be stronger to handle the stiffer factory loads: Does anyone know if Federal's 250grn Cast Core load will fit into the short Tracker cylinder? Cor-Bon's 250 grn Hard Cast FP load? [Confused]

This would greatly effect several of the folks around here [customers of mine, and including myself] who are thinking of a 425 Tracker purchase, but who are still holding out a bit as not much is known in these parts about the revolver. We all want to be able to carry one loaded with these heavier cast loads for Blackbear protection [Big Grin]

Sean, I thought I was going to be able to answer this for you but the dealer sold the Federal's he had and I can not find them. The bullets that are too long in my Tracker are 230gr Keith type. The crimp groove to meplat measurement .390 and they are about .030 too long. When I get home, I will post the cylinder length and the overall length of the too long cartridges. I checked at Federal and Cast Performance for the crimp to meplat measurement but could not find it.

Ok Sean, here are some numbers:
Cylinder Length - 1.578

Cylinder Length including a fired case (Winchester) - 1.630 - that should be the maximium COL the gun can handle unless you want to crowd the cylinder gap some.

My Keith bullet COL is 1.665. I am going to shorter the cases because I really like this bullet.

I e-mailed Cor-Bon and they said their COL in the 250gr cast load is 1.560"-1.565" so that should be no problem. They declined to tell me the bullet manufacturer but I am suspecting Cast Performance because they advertise as suppliers of Cor-Bon. That bullet is the WFN design so it can be shorter for the weight. Cor-Bon also had a note on their site indicating they had changed from the 265gr bullet to the 250 gr bullet so it would fit in the shorter guns.

Federal does use the Cast Performance bullet so they should fit as well.

Where abouts in VA are you from. Perhaps we could meet and you could try my Tracker out.

Small update: Cast Performance e-mailed me the crimp groove to nose measurement of .280 for the bullet they sell Federal. Add that to the max case length of 1.29 and you get a COL of 1.57. That still easily fits in the Taurus cylinder.
