So I was talking to a coworker last week about the S&W Governor. We were talking about the ability to shoot .45acp. It got me to thinking that if it can shoot .45acp then it can also shoot 45auto rim, .45 super, and possibly the .460Rowland.
This is where the 625 comes in. I really have no interest in the Governor or Taurus guns so I was thinking that if I bought the 625 would it be possible to bore it out to shoot 45 super and the .460Rowland?

I've got the 625 Mountain Gun and 45 AR works well on deer. Haven't seen the need to bore out the chambers.

I think the problem would be the pressure. The cylinder wall thickness on a 625 is pretty thin. Also since it is designed for the low pressure 45 ACP I have heard that they don't use the same steel and heat treatment that they do on the higher pressure 629. I know people have loaded some pretty hot ammo in 625s, but I don't know what the safe limit really is.

This is kind of what I was thinking as well. I was thinking that maybe the 45 Super might work but not the .460 Rowland.

If I could find the 625 Mountain Gun I wouldn't be concerned with shooting auto cartridges through it as the .45LC is exactly what I am wanting. Problem is that S&W only make a limited run of them every once in awhile when the demand is there.

I have been a Smith guy since my teens, but if I were looking for a revolver in 45 Colt that could stand the test, I would buy one of the 4" Redhawks and be done with it. Change out the grip if you wish, and let the good times roll. As much as I love my 25-5 Smith, when I got my hands on an original Redhawk 5-1/2" in 45 Colt, my 625 Mountain Gun went on the market and was sold.

Have a look at the Colt Anaconda in 45 Colt, 20 grains of H-110, 300 grain cast bullet should handle most any critter.
All though I don't feel under gunned with any of my S&W model 25s or 625s, in 45 Colt with a 255 grain cast at 900 fps.

I know where a 5.5" .45LC RedHawk is right now. Lightly used in very good shape. Problem is that I have a 5.5" Bisley in .45LC so I was really wanting the 625 Mountain gun. However that Redhawk really felt nice in my hands and since it's a Ruger it should handle the same loads that my other Rugers do.

There is a S&W 45 Colt M625 Mountain Gun on Gunbroker.com right now if you are interested. Don't know anything about it, just noticed it there.
