Last year I bought a Freedom Arms M83 in 454 Casull. It came with an SSK T'SOB scope base but no rings. I am going to scope it and need to buy rings. Anyone know what brand of rings SSK uses with their base? Their website doesn't specify, and I can't identify the rings from the pictures on their site. Mark NRA Life Member

Just buy Warne rings, very strong.

I have to agree with bfr, the Warne rings are a good choice. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

I looked at the Warne website, nice stuff! Warne Maxima's it is then. OK, so do I need 2 rings, or do like SSK does and put 3 or even 4 on. I'm using a Burris 2x scope, and there might be enough tube length to get 4 rings on. Seeing as I'd have to buy 2 sets of rings if I use more than one set, I should try to use 4? I agree, 3 to 4 rings on a Burris. Their tubes are soft. I use 2 rings on everything with my Ultra dots or my Leopold scope. Even a Tasco scope does not move because I can tighten the rings without marking the tube. I destroyed a Burris tube on my .44 SBH. NOTHING would hold it. As it slipped, the tube extruded through the rings. Looks like I used a crimper on it.

I hadn't heard about soft tubes on Burris scopes before. This scope came on a Contender I bought a number of years ago, and it's been sitting in the safe since I sold the Contender.I figured I'd put it to use on this 454, and see if it survives the marriage. Mark NRA Life Member

Let us know how it holds up. Your scope might be light enough to take it. Heavy scopes just are no good on hard kicking handguns. A scope that can take the recoil of a .460 Weatherby will get eaten by a big bore handgun.
