I just went into my local gun store and ordered a SS Super Blackhawk in 44 mag. I called my gun nut buddy to tell him the good news and he told me I should have ordered a new "Hunter" model. The difference being the Hunter can accept a scope. I will be checking back with the store to see if I can take a look at this model. I have two questions- are the two models price comparable- and does anyone know where I can see a picture of one. The Ruger web site doesn't show one. I really like the clean look of the Blackhawk- and am not sure if the Hunter has the same clean lines.
Thanks!

The hunter has different lines on the barrel. If you like the looks of the SBH then you may not like the hunter. It is real similar but has a heavier looking barrel.

I have the SBH in SS and love the looks of it. I thought about a scope but can't stand the thought of changing the looks of it.

Here is a site where you can see the Hunter for yourself.

Thanks Drifty, I have also answered my own post-- the new issue of Guns and Ammo have it listed as a New for 02 item. I have since called the gun store and changed my order- I think it looks awesome.
I plan to reload and shoot it a lot without a scope- and then top it off for hunting next year.

DR,

I'd recomend using a scope to develop loads, then when load work is done, pull off the scope.

I never would have realized how accurate my 480 SRH is if I hadn't scoped it. I generally like a fixed 2x on a revovler, but if you want to shoot tight groups at 100 yds, more magnification is an assett, so consider a 2-6.

Paul,
Thanks for the reply. I have been considering this same thought. It would be smarter to develope a load and make sure it is accurate using the scope- then remove the scope and shoot to better develope open sight shooting. I plan to start with a load of 22 grains of H110 using a hornady 240XTP. The same bullet will be used for deer hunting- so I plan to work with that bullet all summer--if it shoots well of course. Thanks again.
