I'm going to be limited to handgun hunting this fall due to a health issue. I'd like to hunt deer with my Contender 14" 256 Win Mag barrel and I'm thinking an 87 gr soft point Sierra bullet may be just fine. Anyone use this caliber for deer at woods ranges 50-90 yds. | ||

Headlighters use a .22LR all the time. IF you keep your shots close. IF you place your shots properly. You can kill a deer with this round. Deer aren't that hard to kill. Check your local game laws to make sure this is legal. If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out. | |||

Yes it's legal in NYS: Handgun* any centerfire pistol or revolver. Barrel length maximum is 16 inches | |||
