Hey everyone, This is my first post here, and I am in need of some help. I have been shooting a Ruger Superblackhawk 44 with a 4x scope for some time. I have now decided to shoot with the open sights, and can't lower the rear sight enough to sight in correctly. Does anyone know where I can get a taller then factory front sight blade??? I am not too worried about if it is real pretty or not, I just want it to be good fit and quality and just basically be taller. Thanks, Joe

Any good smith can add some metal & you can file it to fit. Depends on how far off you are but you can remove the reqar sight & ake some metal off the bottom so you can lower the rear sight just a bot more. I did this on my 4 5/8BH in .45colt to get my 300grLFP to zero @ 25yds.

Someone told me that you could get different blades from Ruger. I never checked into it though. You might try Brownells as they have a large selection of factory parts. I silver soldered a piece onto the front sight of my 4 5/8" 45 Blackhawk, then filed it down.

Call Ruger. They have replacement front sights in several different heights. IIRC they sent my replacement free of charge, but that was about 8-9 years ago so I don't know what their policy is now. Let me know if you need a formula to calculate which sight height to get.

I went ahead and found the post I made in another forum. Shoot a good group at 25 yards with the rear sight approximately in the middle of the adjustment range to determine how far you need to move the POI down on the target. The formula for finding the correct front sight height to use with your open sights follows - Divide the sight radius in inches by the distance to the target in inches. Then multiply that figure by the distance you want to move the point of impact on the target. The result is the change in sight height you need. Say your sight radius is 9 inches (distance from rear blade to top of the front sight ramp). The distance to the target 25 yards away in inches is (25*36) or 900 inches. 9/900 = .01 Lets say you want to move the center of your group down by 5 inches. 5 * .01= .05 In this example you would need a sight .05" higher than the current front sight to move the POI down 5 inches at 25 yards. Measure the height of your current sight from where it meets the base to the top of the ramp and add .05 that is your correct front sight height. Call Ruger and tell them that height and Id bet they have one pretty close. The reason you fire your group with the rear sight in the middle position is because Ruger might not have the exact height you want and this will give you some wiggle room to get a bit taller front sight.
