Do any of you hunt using 10 mm? I'm considering that caliber with a six inch barrel for deer hunting and I have'nt seen much here about it. Anyone use it. All comments welcome. Thanks

I have a Colt Delta & have worked up hunting loads but only taken jackrabbits w/ it. I see no reason why a good 200grJHP @ 1100fps, in the right spot, wouldn't do the job. I see this round as a 50yd max. though.

I have a 10 mm Glock and don't hunt with it but I also have some 165gr bullets loaded for it at 1400 fps with those you could kill a deer up to 75 or 100 yds but not beyond 100yds.

Actually, with Double Tap ammo you can significantly and safely beat the velocity you have listed. All these velocities were obtained using a Glock 20 10mm with factory barrel. Mike McNett achieves this within safe SAAMI Spec pressures for the 10mm, a lot less pressure than the old Norma ammo.

DOUBLE TAP AMMO

135gr. Nosler JHP 1600
155gr. Gold Dot JHP 1475
165gr. Gold Dot JHP 1400
165gr. Golden Saber HP 1425
180gr. FMJ Match 1250
180gr. Gold Dot JHP 1300
180gr. Golden Saber HP 1330
200gr. XTP-HP 1250
200gr. FMJ-FP 1270
220gr. Precision FP 1125

I have been reloading the 10mm since early 1988. I found Glock Talk last year which has 2 sections on the 10mm called the "10 Ring" and "10mm Reloading" these are the sites that Mike Mcnett of Double Tap Ammo frequents. I have now been loading my 10mm's with Mike's load data and I have to say "WOW".......
5" Glock 20 velocities are.......
200gr XTP's @ 1280fps
180gr XTP's @ 1320fps
135gr Nosler JHP's @ 1650fps
As you can see I live in B.C. Canada where my anti-gun government has licensed me to carry my 10mm's for protection against wild animals.
Hunt deer with it? Think of the 10mm as a slightly less powerful 41 magnum. If you can place your shots the 10mm will do it's job for you.

I also hunt with my G20, and really like it. Now that hi-cap mags are legal again, 15 rounds of 10mm are just the ticket! Anyway, the last time I was at Glock Talk, there wasn't much data from Mike personally. I'd like to try his info - can you pass it along, or maybe provide a link to the page where he spilled the beans?? Is he using regular over-the-counter powders? thanks, maxman

The main powder that did the most for me was IMR 800X. This powder did not measure very well from my RCBS powder measure until I put an RCBS powder baffel into it. I'll have to pull out the data when I get home and post it tommorow.

I just checked the data at Glock Talk, 10mm Reloading in the IMR loading thread and the data is basically exactly what Mcnett was using.

The reason that Mike Mcnett is not posting much on Glock Talk anymore is because he is sponsoring a new 10mm forum called "10mm Talk" found @ http://10mmtalk.com so try there.

hmm - some of the loads listed were tested in the T/C. Wonder if that means they are only safe in that gun?? It seems that for the 200 gr XTP, a move from 7.8 to 10.0 gr might be a big step. Myself, I don't think I will use any load that says"T/C" by it in my Glock. Even the IMR loading rec of 7.8 gr should be better than (or equal to) my current blue dot loads in terms of velocity, at what appears to be lower pressure. Maybe I'll give it a try once my current pound is all burned up. maxman

If it doesn't say "T/C only" then it is not. The use of the T/C is probably due to being easier to attach pressure sensors.

800X can be a bit dangerous to push to the max. It is subject to temperature sensitivity and pressure spikes.

I'll also give a vote to McNett's ammo that can be found at doubletap it's VERY high performance ammo and shows almost NO pressure signs.

I've killed 4 wild hogs with a 10mm in the last 3 years and all of them expired within 30 feet of where I shot them. I've yet to kill my first deer with a 10mm but hope to get one this year.

My favorite 10mm is a Glock 20 with a KKM barrel, adjustable Meprolight Night Sights, and a drop in competition trigger.
