I shot my fifth deer this evening with my .45 Vaquero. The shot was 55 yd's through a small opening I could get my boolit through. I used a 325 gr WFN boolit from my home made mold. I used 21.5 gr's of 296 and the Fed 150 primer.
It was cold with winds gusting up to 55 MPH. Felt like 20 below.
Thats enough for the season, my neighbors got their meat and I have enough.

Any chance it was a head or spine shot?

Congrats anyway. I'm either gonna get a doe this weekend coming or a red the week after. Maybe with the PLR.

Tight behind the shoulder. I can't hold good enough offhand to trust a small target. Anyway, even if I could, I could only see her chest through the brush.
I have trigger control but in my old age, sights wobble more.

Luv them Jefferson County slickheads. Maybe you should drive by Bordens farm on the way to Shepherdstown and shoot one of his too. He'd love you for it. Just say I sent you.

Sure you didn't 'snare' that deer, then finish it off? Great hunt, real skill with an open sighted sixgun, Congrats.

Should make for some good eating!

I took two deer this season with my 629 woods gun. I wasn't looking to take the shot with my handgun. I had it loaded with hardcast flat nose 240 gr gas checks. I loaded it with 10.5 grains of Unique. Oh yeah, the shot was inside 50 yds for both. The 629 has open iron sights.

It is not my primary hunting handgun, but she performed beautifully. My primary hunting handgun is a 629 with a Leupold 2x scope.

Well, congrats Rafsob! Do you have any pictures?? Let's see 'em!

BTW, we ate the deer (at least a portion) in this post yesterday and I have to say that it was damn good! Not only can the man shoot, but he can cook too! thumb
