Having read Lar45's post about his BFR, my interest has been peaked about this caliber. How does it compare with the 500 S&W or the 500 Linebaugh?

Its simply the .500 version of the 500 Linebaugh. Only real advantage is a wider range of 50 caliber bullets available if you reload. I never seen that as an advantage though as there are plenty of .511 bullets available ranging from 350gr- 700gr if you want them. I use the 350gr and 435gr Cast Performance in my 500 Linebaugh myself. I did purchase a 500 S&W in a BMF though ( not a BFR ). You know who built those revolvers. With only 100 made in 510 Max and 500 S&W I could not pass it up. The 500 JHR is an interesting cartridge too, however.

Does Gunner ever post on here?

Woody, thanks for the info. Sounds like a short 500 S&W. Back when I was on Gary's forum, I brought up that idea, but he wasn't interested. I see he now has a 510 necked to 500.
How are things going with you and Tyler?
Unfortunately, Gunner doesn't post here.

Another difference is you can load the 500 JRH, in a BFR, to the same pressure as the 500 S&W. This could give you a velocity increase over the 500 Linebaugh. I don't plan on running my at the top end of things, but will have to try a few just because.

The 550 JRH is an excllent cartridge and I have 2 of them. My first one was the original prototype FA-83 with a 5 1/2" that Jack made up to develope the cartridge and my second one is a 5" BFR from the Custom shop. The BFR is with Grizzly Ammo at the present time as that is the revolver that was and is being used to develope the factory loads that Grizzly Ammo is stocking.

Whitworth has tested some of those loads and found them to be excellent in his BFR

And another thing, it'll fit where a .500 Linebaugh won't -- an FA 83. I am amazed at the accuracy that we have gotten out of my .500 JRH -- it's mind boggling. There are a lot more components available in .500 as oposed to .510. And I have a .500 Linebaugh as well.
