I have just one these days, an autoloader, but I bought it first for collector reasons and only second for the cartridge.

I can remember a time when it seemed like every guy I knew had to have a 357. I had one myself, a nickel S&W Model 27. It's long gone now. I can also remember when state troopers I knew all carried Model 28s. I can also remember being tested to show how many times in one minute I could pull the trigger on a 357 when I applied for an FBI agent job. But when was that? Late 60s? Early 70s? Maybe about the time of Eastwood's "Magnum Force"?

I don't know. But it has been a while. Like in everything else styles change. In came the hi capacity 9 mil. I think a lot of the popularity with the Niners can be traced back to TV and movies, like "Miami Vice" and "Serpico". After that we saw the 1911 revival. It's still going strong.

Whatever the reason, 357 is just not what's hot right now. And for handgun hunters we now have bigger, better and lots more choices.

Revolvers in general arn't the "rage" for self defence these days but in reality there are a lot of people still buying them. Especially the the guys who don't post on places like here.

I grew up thinking everyone should have a .357. I'm not sure where that came from because I don't feel I really have a need for one. My Carry guns are 9mm's and my hunting revolvers are big bores. I did shoot my first deer 27 years ago with my dads .357 maybe thats my attraction to them I don't know.

A few years ago I found a good deal on a .357 blackhawk and the only reason I bought it was because I did'nt have a .357 and like I said everyone should. I don't know why but that started a buying spree and I ended up with 5 of them.

I weeded a couple out and now I'm down to 3 I guess thats a good place to stay.

In the late 60's and into the 70's and I took deer and hogs with them. I thought a 357 was the Cats Ass. That is until I got a 44 Mag and then for a few decades I neglected the 357 and didn't own one again until a couple of years ago and now I have 2 M-19 S&W a 4" and a 6". I am finding them a pleasent aquirement. I also have a SP-101 2 1/2" barreled 357.
The factory loads of the 60's and 70's were loaded to higher presures than the loads of today, except for the Buffalo Bore loads. The chronograph tells the truth and doesn't lie about the speeds.

The 357 is one of the most versatile rounds out there. The revolvers can be had in smaller and more useful packages then the 41 and bigger ones.

Three. A Dan Wesson with 4,6, and 8" barrels; a SS Security 6 with 4", and a SS GP100 with 6". I enjoy shooting them all. Also have a S&W60 to carry when I don't want to carry a "real" gun.

Have only two, a Ruger Security Six 6" that I bought new in 1976 and an S&W 627 V Comp. The 357 is becoming my favorite handgun to shoot and reload due to cost, versatility, 38 special option and low cost brass. You can shoot alot and stay in practice.

I had a Dan Wesson 8" VH stainless many years ago then sold it to get a T/C Contender in .223. I slap myself every time I think about it.

A replacement .357 is on my list of "to get" guns in the near future.

I have one 5.5" Blackhawk, my wife has a 4" 686. Seems that 44's and above get the largest section of my budget. Love the 357 though, easy on the wrist, not so easy on the ears.

Actually, I would still own some but the budget required me to sell guns to buy others and it still does. There is no overtime with SS. I have had to part with some wonderful guns over the years, even when I was working.

I have 3, a GP100 SS w/6" bbl, a Ruger 3 screw blackhawk w/6.5" bbl and a SS Taurus 605 w/ a 2-1/4" bbl and am waiting for a decent deal on a Colt Python w/ a 6" bbl. in SS finish. A good cartridge if you keep the range reasonable.

Mine are all Blackhawks, a type 1 flattop, a 5 digit 3 screw, a run of the mill 3 screw and a new model.
