Went out to bfrshoter's house this morning at the crack of dawn, to hunt deer (antlerless) for the last time of the season. My firearm of choice was my Huntington built .475 Linebaugh SRH pushing 420 grain hardcast bullets at 1,350 fps. This morning was cold -- damn cold. Saw one deer around 8:00 but couldn't get a shot. Then nothing until 9:15 when a button buck walked up. I nearly scared him off in my haste to cock my revolver, but got 20 yard shot that hit him in the neck, and exited the offside shoulder. At the shot, he jumped straight up and took off like a bat out of hell. But, he didn't go far, piling up in about 40 yards. I hit an artery and he left a blood trail even a blind man could have followed.......

He will make for great table fare.

Way to go Marko, my season is over for this year. I just had ankle surgury 2 weeks ago, and will be in a cast another 2 weeks, and then another Air cast for a few more weeks. Good thing I kill 3 deer this year, one with my muzzleloader, one with my shotgun, and one with my 510 GNR hand cannon with 315 gr. head cast bullets at 950 fps.

No bow kills this year, I was using my recurve bow this year, and nothing came close enough to get a shot on.

Whitworth, how can a non-jacketed bullet be so effective?

Great job Marko! My season is about to start. I could not hunt the regular seasons so I am going out in Kansas and Nebraska January seasons this weekend. I hope to do so well. Since the place I hunt had a foot of snow last week, they should be easy to spot. I hope to make the 41 mag "bark".

Yes indeed! As soon as I have the time to get it dialed in, I will do just that -- probably early in the new year.

Bioman (Scott) came out the last day with his 45-70 Marlin. He picked a nice large doe out of about 15 he seen and the gun went BLOOOP! He broke the front leg instead of the shoulder. The second shot did not fire. We tracked her for miles until she quit bleeding. Too many deer with her to follow a track.
I think the Marlin has some lube that got stiff and the primer was not hit hard enough. CCI primers take some force to fire right. It was cold out. I need to work on his gun.
Then I found that he had his .44 Hunter in his car!!!! He said he wanted to try a certain boolit in his rifle so I forgive him for it.

Congrats on the late season hunt. I was wanting to head out for our last weekend here, but had a knee scoped Thursday and really didn't feel up to the ride after that.

Some of my time off from work however will be quality time at the range, working on a couple of projects that are WAY overdue.
