And people keep saying black bear are more afraid of us, that may be the case, but it only takes one to change that.

Actually, I'm surprised that more people haven't been mauled and killed in the Smokies. As a kid over 50 years ago, the black bears were constantly in the camping areas of the park. That was when everyone was cooking over open fire pits and occasionally a big black bear would run through a camp and grab a bacon slab. I recall my dad as a Scoutmaster building a special food box for the troop that we hauled up a large tree each night. I don't trust foxes and skunks so why would I ever trust a bear.

george,

You are forgetting raccoons; how can you trust an animal that wears a mask?

If ignorance is bliss; there are some blissful sonofaguns around here. We know who you are, so no reason to point yourselves out.

I have always been confused by rules that do not allow you to protect yourself or your family in dangerous areas. The liberals consider an animal more important then your child.
I had to transfer to WV with my job. I worked for UAL in VA. One of my friends drove into DC with his family to see the sights and got lost. He was stopped by the police and asked what he was doing there. He was told to get the #@&* out and do not stop for any lights or stop signs.
If you think bears are dangerous, go into areas where the most dangerous of all live--MAN! A place where the liberals did not allow you to protect yourself either.
Then we have the super liberals like the jerk that befriended bears and lived with them. Made all kinds of movies about how great and harmless they are. HEE HEE, dinner when needed! Big Grin

I dont live far from the smokies and seen plenty of bear. I do live close to a bear reserve actually between 2 reserves and do know what they are capable of
and most cases the problem bears in the smokies
are usually sent to this reserve which runs from
my neck of the woods to north carolina. the other one runs nort of where i live and goes into virignia and nort carolina. that family is lucky it was a cub and not the momma.
